Chicago Cupcakes Take Over the World…

Posted by on Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

…or at least, Chicago. Yes, yes it’s the famous red, white and blue flag every windy city hipster has tattooed on them somewhere and two weeks ago I piped it onto a dozen cupcakes, complete with gummy ras for the Chicago Style Crafter Trunk Show. This week, The Bleeding Heart Bakery unveiled their much more carefully done version- the Girls Rock! Chicago cupcake.

One dollar from the sale of each charity cupcake in the month of June will be donated to Girls Rock! Chicago.

Girls Rock! Chicago (GR!C) is a volunteer-run non-profit that works to foster girls’ creative expression, positive self-esteem and community awareness through rock music.

Girls Rock! Chicago is a 501(c)(3) non-for profit organization dedicated to fostering girls’ creative expression, positive self-esteem and community awareness through rock music. Through our music education programs for girls ages 9-16, we are committed to educating girls about the musical, technical, and creative aspects involved in musicianship, because we believe that young girls are rarely encouraged to explore self-expressive creative outlets and are less likely to be given access to musical and technical instruction or equipment. We believe that rock music can be a crucial tool in allowing young women to respond to preconceived notions of what they can do and what they can become.

Lux-Sugar Cupcakes and my not so good experience.

Posted by on Wednesday, May 21st, 2008

There comes a time, I suppose, where we have to share our experiences.. good or bad. I have been contemplating how to go about this as I’ve never really had a negative experience that involves cupcakes… until today.

I recently saw a post on Cupcakes Take The Cake , about Lux Sugar, and how they ship and have perez hilton cupcakes. Awesome! I personally, like to order online so I can write up awesome reviews on ATC.. and of course, I always forget to mention that I do write for ATC but maybe that’s a good thing.. right?

I placed an order on their website and didn’t receive any sort of response for a few days and then when I did receive a response, it was an apology that their store wouldn’t let them view orders. Understandable. They gave me a coupon for 6 free cupcakes. Thanks.. but I’m not sure if I will use it.

The box came today.. and the cupcakes were hidden, in the midst of packing peanuts.. I pull out the cupcake box and this is what I see:

Needless to say, I was beyond disappointed. It was definitely a cupcake catastrophe and I don’t think I will be ordering from them. ever. again.

Sigh. Was it just my order? Has anyone else had this experience?

Buttercup’s Paw-tisserie

Posted by on Sunday, April 27th, 2008

A while back I posted a recipe on my blog for pupcakes (cupcakes for your dog) after seeing something similar at Cupcakes. I was poking around today to see what other people are baking for their pups and came across Buttercup’s Paw-tisserie in Brooklyn. Is it sick that some of the cookies and candies for dogs looked tasty to me? I don’t care, if it’s vegetarian I’ll eat it and they have a whole section of veggie dog treats.

I’m feeling fortune right not to not have a dog, I already give my kid way too many cupcakes. But my mom’s got some doggies that I’m sure would love this place. Anyway, it goes to show you that cupcake are universally delicious, even if you drink from the toilet and lick your own butt.

Crumbs Bakeshop sent me an e-mail yesterday about shipping cupcakes.. They will be shipping their cupcakes nationwide.. in a few months. Once they figure out exactly how to. They are trying to master the art of shipping cupcakes so I told them I’d ask my readers if they had any suggestions for Crumbs.

Cupcakes from The Bleeding Heart Bakery

Posted by on Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

I know TBHB has been getting lots of press lately, and I’m a part of the hoard with my interview with chef/owner Michelle Garcia form last year. But they really are doing something amazing- organic bakery with a punk rock kick in the pants! Michelle only uses local, sustainable products and contributes to just about every good cause in Chicago. I was already in love after the first interview, but I recently profile Michelle for another publication and it rekindled my passion for baking, supporting women-owned business and for well, The Bleeding Heart Bakery. It’s gotten to the point where people e-mail me to say how much they enjoyed their cupcake from TBHB and I have to tell them I’m not Michelle, I’m just a huge fan and accidental PR writer. So here are some of the many beautiful cupcakes TBHB has to offer. If you’re ever in Chicago give me a call and I’ll meet you there for one!

Cupcake Shoppe Bakery

Posted by on Sunday, February 3rd, 2008

This weekend I was out with my daughter, fulfilling a flat-kid project for my niece who lives in California.  We took her/it up to the Capitol building for a tour and many, many pictures.  But it wasn’t until we were on the way home did we drive past a Cupcakery ~ Grand Opening!  Holy what in the world?!?  This was news to me!  My daughter pointed it out, as I was minding my own business, diligently paying attention to the road and all of the crazy drivers yesterday.  Ironically, I turned into one of those crazy drivers and made a bee-line for the first parking spot and well, you know the rest.

Fat Daddy Bake Shop Loves Us!

Posted by on Friday, February 1st, 2008

There is such a place that exists where you can purchase cupcakes online and they ship them out to you. The cupcakes are delicious and come in adorable packaging. I always thought this was too good to be true, so I just HAD to place an order. Here is my experience with Fat Daddy Bake Shop.

All in all, I rate my experience with them a 10! The cupcakes were delicious. I put mine in the microwave for a FEW seconds, no more than 10 and it was very moist, delicious and oohy goohy. Yum! I wish I would have ordered 5 more.Check out Fat Daddy Bake Shop!

The Little Cupcake Company

Posted by on Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

I wasn’t sure how many UK-ers there were who read this blog but as I’m one of them I decided to write about the cupcake company I stumbled across today who are based in the UK.

The place in question is The Little Cupcake Company and I can tell you now, their cupcakes look delicious!! They bake their cupcakes to order and deliver in mainland UK. The above picture is taken from their Signature Collection (they also have a Chocolate Collection which looks equally yummy!!!).

They also cater for parties, corporate events, special occasions (anniversaries & new arrivals) and weddings, with a choice of boxed by the dozen, cupcake tiers and individually boxed. Prices range from £12-£48 for a dozen cupcakes (they do have a minimum order quantity but it depends on the package you have) and delivery is from £15.

If there is anyone from the UK on here, I don’t know about you but I will definitely be hinting at the boyfriend for some cupcakey goodness on my birthday!!!

Edit to add: I just tried to send them a message and they are currently closed for redevelopment! Deliveries will re-start on 6th February but you can still contact them and they will get back to you either by phone or email in the week beginning 28th January.

Perfect Endings Holiday Cupcakes

Posted by on Saturday, December 15th, 2007

These cupcakes made for Williams-Sonoma by Perfect Endings have become one of Oprah’s favorite things. Perfect Endings Cupcakes can be shipped anywhere in the United States and come in three fabulous flavors: red velvet with white icing, chocolate with chocolate sprinkles and coconut.

From Williams-Sonoma:

Perfect Endings, the renowned Napa Valley bakery, makes these cupcakes for us from scratch, using fresh eggs, real butter and other premium ingredients. And they’re superb. Sam Godfrey, the founder, learned baking as a child from his Southern grandmother, and this set includes three favorites re-created from her original recipes: rich chocolate, frosted with classic chocolate icing and scattered with dark chocolate sprinkles; red velvet, generously swirled with an old-fashioned white icing and sprinkled with red velvet cake crumbs; and vanilla, with vanilla icing topped with shredded coconut.
