Snowmen Cupcakes

Posted by on Monday, October 31st, 2011

Yes, you are probably thinking that it is a little too early to be talking about snow, and for most of us it is, but since New England did experience their first snowfall recently, I thought I’d post these cute cupcakes.

Up Cupcakes

Posted by on Monday, October 31st, 2011

Has anyone seen the move Up? If you haven’t, stop what you are doing immediately and go rent it! No, I really mean it! It is one of the best cartoon/movies I have ever seen.

When I saw these cupcakes that were made for this movie, my heart melted. They are so cute and such a fabulous representation.

Mini Ghost Cupcakes

Posted by on Sunday, October 30th, 2011

Halloween is tomorrow, so you still have time to make some last minute treats.  These would be a seriously quick and easy treat to make, and you might already have all the ingredients on hand.  Just make a batch of mini chocolate cupcakes, pipe some Cool Whip on top, and add chocolate chips for the eyes and mouth.

Cupcake Rain Gear

Posted by on Sunday, October 30th, 2011

I know today everyone is talking about the Nor’easter in the North East but I have a feeling we still have a few fall days left before winter is here to stay.  Since the holiday catalogs have already started arriving I looked through Hearth Song’s catalog this weekend.  Hearth Song has some really cute cupcake items.  My personal favorite are the cupcake rain gear; boots, umbrellas, and raincoats! Prices for these fun items range from $19.98 for the umbrella to $48.98 for the cupcake raincoat which features faces of bunnies and dogs on top of cupcakes.

More Halloween Cupcakes

Posted by on Saturday, October 29th, 2011

I just found these Halloween delights at a local bakery, The Bankery, in Skowhegan, Maine. The decorations are all done by hand, and all in frosting. Talk about talented! My son was thrilled, because I couldn’t bring myself to eat the spider, so he got the whole thing! The cat is my favorite, paws down! Happy Halloween!

Spider Cupcakes

Posted by on Friday, October 28th, 2011

I just found this fun spider cupcake idea this morning.  Use chocolate icing and sprinkles to cover a cupcake, use icing to attach sour ball halves to peppermints for the eyes, use a piece of red licorice for the mouth and Reese’s Pieces or M&Ms for the nose, 8 pieces of black licorice for the legs, and 2 pieces of black licorice for the pinchers.

Mummy Face Cupcakes

Posted by on Friday, October 28th, 2011

Last year we shared with you an idea from the authors of Hello Cupcake/Whats New Cupcake on how to create a mummy out of cupcakes.  For an alternative mummy cupcake Annie from With Sprinkles on Top offers the idea of making the cupcake faces look like mummies! She bought the eye from a local candy store but I’m sure white candy with a drop of chocolate will have the same effect!

Cupcake Rose Tutorial

Posted by on Thursday, October 27th, 2011

I spent way too much time this morning on a colossal cupcake fail. I was trying to do the Wilton Rose, but all I got were wilted dandelions. Finally, I gave up and went to youtube for some help. Probably should have done that before I frosted two dozen cupcakes. Sigh. Anyway, I found this great video, though I had to watch it in slow motion. One of my problems was the consistency of my frosting. Too stiff won’t work. Neither will too soft. Of course, if you’re smart enough to use premade decorating frosting, then you don’t need to worry about that! So, here’s your professional tutorial!

Target Cupcake Bank

Posted by on Monday, October 24th, 2011

A quick run into my local target resulted in yet another Target cupcake find.  Target has cupcake banks! In addition to the three cupcake banks there are also hamburgers, globes, and the traditional piggy along with frogs and dinosaurs.  With so many options to choose from these would be great to buy now and save as a christmas present since they are $9.99-$11.04, especially if you needed something for a boy and a girl.

Cute as a Cupcake Earrings

I don’t own any cupcake earrings myself, yet — but these seem like a good match for me! These are so adorable.

If I were to wear these, I’d be scared that random people that would come up and nibble my ear!

Broken Glass Cupcakes

Posted by on Friday, October 21st, 2011

Martha Stewart has just created a spooky, new cupcake for Halloween.  Impress your guests with these broken glass cupcakes.  All you have to do to make broken glass is melt sugar, pour it onto a buttered baking sheet, and once it’s cooled you simply break it into pieces.  Then, for a more gory effect, melt some cherry jam and pour it over the “glass” pieces.  Go here to see the recipe and hear Martha explain how to make these terrifying treats.

The Cupcakory

Posted by on Thursday, October 20th, 2011

While visiting Boston last weekend I was amazed at how many food trucks can be spotted around the city!  Of course I tried several food trucks including a red velvet maple ice cream sandwich from Frozen Hoagies and at the SoWa Open Market I had The Green Munster Melt grilled cheese which consisted of munster cheese, homemade avocado and applewood bacon from Roxy’s Gourmet Grilled Cheese.

Most importantly at the Boston Book Festival I tried a cupcake from The Cupcakory, Boston’s original cupcake truck.  Feeling seasonal I decided to try the Apple Crumble cupcake, shown at left.  A fresh apple cake with vanilla butter cream, rolled in a traditional baked apple crumble topping of oatmeal, brown sugar, butter, and autumn spices.  I enjoyed watching my cupcake be frosted and rolled in the apple crumble topping as opposed to being handed a pre-decorated cupcake.  The cupcake was delicious and despite not being a huge fan of whipped frosting I really liked the apple crumble topping. The best way to find The Cupcakory is to check their Location/schedule section on their website for follow them on Facebook and Twitter. Oh and don’t you love their cupcake display window?
