Each and every day, I am approving so many photos of  cupcakistry that today, I have decided that it’s time to shout out some of these capcakkies! We have a group on Flickr here at Sweet Cuppin Cakes Bakery and I cannot tell you how inspiring this group is for our bakers. WOW

First off there is Norwichnuts, I cannot get enough of her talents! She is a fab cook too.

These cupcakkies will receive our new Rainbow  liners, and we will look forward to seeing what they put up in those! Here is a peek to get thinking!

Cupcake Wars

Mike Vicic – February 15, 2009

Article and photo are from TVTango.com

The national media went on a sugar high late last year, and it’s still buzzing about cupcakes.  First, it was a Washington Post newspaper column.  Now, is the cupcake craze ready for primetime TV?

Apparently so.  Food Network is considering an entire TV series devoted to cupcakes, and it’s tentatively called “Cupcake Wars.”

The Washington Post took coverage to another level when they started their own Cupcake Wars on September 10, 2008.  Over an eight-week period, food critics sampled 141 varieties of cupcakes inside the Beltway, documented their results, and told their tales of flavor.  After all was eaten and said, The Post declared the chocolate ganache cupcake from Georgetown Cupcakes as the winner.

And now this.  About 10 days ago, Food Network filed a trademark application to protect ‘Cupcake Wars’ for “a continuing program about food and cooking.” I can’t find any other details about the show and my requests to Food Network for more information went unanswered.  Wouldn’t it be awesome if Food Network and The Post teamed up to do a “Cupcake War” series with each episode focusing on a different region?  Manhattan one week, Chicago the next, then LA, and Orange County and on and on.

For those of you in the Los Angeles area who want to do your own personal Cupcake War, here’s a link to an LA-area cupcake map to get you started.  The map’s not all inclusive, but it’s pretty comprehensive.  Plus, I added a legend (with links) at the end of this post.  Enjoy!

BTW: I’ve sampled cupcakes from about 20 places, and I pick Delilah Bakery as the best.

I just discovered your fabulous site and have spent the last several hours catching up on posts and emailing them to friends and family like crazy.  I LOVE cupcakes.  Not sure if you post stuff like this regularly, but I thought I would pass along pictures of my wedding cupcake stand, especially as it was an April wedding and had a “cherry blossom” color scheme.  They were from Tracy’s Divine Desserts in Milwaukee, WI. So happy I found this blog!

Most Adorable Tea Cup Cakes

Posted by on Sunday, February 15th, 2009

2097_craft_teaups_lAfter reading an article on the origin of cupcakes detailing how cupcakes were small cakes often baked in tea cups to use up cake batter, the Martha Stewart Craft site  posts this as craft of the day! You do not even have to be a pastry chef  to get in on this. The pattern and instructions are on her website and can easily be adjusted to design awesome tea cup cakes. Felting is actually quite simple to do and allows your creative, whimsical side to flourish.  If anyone does make this craft design inspired by Betz White,  I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see your work! I am thinking we should have an online funky woolen sweater drive as well.  Have fun, I know I will!  Thanks Martha.
