I’ve seen my fair share of fake cakes and cupcakes on Etsy and as much as I love fake food I’m never quite satisfied with my choices.

**If you’re just finding us for the first time…these beautifully scented candles feature prints of our completely original paintings.**

Ever since we first listed our baking gal candles we’ve received tons of requests for more candles. What’s held us up was finding the right candle. We wanted a candle that was larger, wider, and had the perfect scent. Well we found it!…and so here’s our new line of Everyday is a Holiday candles!
It’s a great size 6″ tall x 3 1/2″ wide. We noticed in the main pic that it sorta looked like a votive, which couldn’t be further from the truth. This is a pretty big candle and we think it models our artwork perfectly! The scent is Fresh Tuberose…we have one lit right now and it’s really good…a nice and light floral. The cream colored wax is a great backdrop to our artwork as well. We made downsized prints of our original paintings and affixed them to these candles and added decorative trims to frame in the imagery.
For Charlotte we used vintage sheet music. For the Well Read Raven we used some vintagey handwriting. And our Pretty Paper Doll Portrait and Cupcake Girls are both framed in delicate pin dot pink polka dots. We also give them each a little bit of an antique wash ’cause it just makes ’em look better! But the three dimensional element really finishes each off. The brown and white bakery string tied in a sweet bow around a tiny bundle of vintage millinery flowers. And they’ve all got a clear protective coating over the artwork.
These are an awesome gift and we love them because they’re table top decor. We have so little wall space in our new apartment that it’s nearly impossible to display our artwork.

On November 13th myself and many other people I know wrote the word LOVE on their arm, why? To show that people love each other, and are there for you. You do not have to turn to drugs or cutting or suicide as an answer. It was such a simple act to show your support … all you had to do is take a marker and write the word LOVE on your arm.

To Write Love on Her Arms, also known as TWLOHA, is an American non-profit organization which aims to present hope and find help for people struggling with problems such as depression, drug addiction, self-injury, and suicide. Based in Central Florida, TWLOHA seeks to connect people to treatment centers, websites, books, support groups, and other resources. TWLOHA also encourages people to have honest conversations about these issues, to live in community, and to seek help for these treatable conditions.

I don’t know how many of you watch Grey’s Anatomy, but in an episode called “Save Me” a character named Izzie (played by Katherine Heigl) spends a ridiculous amount of time worrying that she can’t duplicate her mom’s cupcake recipe. Eventually she employs the help of a psychic and the recipe crisis is resolved.

Izzie’s Cupcakes

2 cups heavy cream
10 large eggs
1 cup granulated sugar
4 ounces unsweetened chocolate, broken into 1/2-ounce pieces
4 cups semisweet chocolate chips
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons coconut extract
1 1/2 cups cake flour
20 ounces semisweet chocolate, broken into 1/2-ounce pieces

Set oven to Preheat at 325 degrees Fahrenheit.

After warming 2 inches of water over medium in the bottom portion of a double boiler, put the 20 ounces of semisweet chocolate, 4 ounces of unsweetened chocolate, and 2 cups of heavy cream into the top portion. Cover with plastic wrap and let it warm for 8 minutes. Then, remove the boiler from the heat and mix until smooth.

Put the coconut extract, eggs, and granulated sugar into a mixing bowl and stir (or electrically beat) with medium power for about four minutes. Then, add the ingredients from the boiler and stir for 20 more seconds at medium power as well. Next, put the baking soda, chocolate chips, and cake flour to the mixture and stir on lower power for 10 seconds. Slowly, stir to medium power for another 10 seconds. Afterwards, stir additionally to make sure all the ingredients seem thoroughly mixed.

Pour the mixture into 36 cupcake baking cups. Allow some room beneath the rim for the cupcakes to rise. Place the cupcakes into the oven and bake for approximately 25 minutes (Test by placing a toothpick into the center of the cupcake; if it comes out clean, the cupcakes are done). Let the cupcakes cool before eating. And enjoy!
