Fondant Cupcakes

Posted by on Friday, August 19th, 2011

I found these fondant cupcakes on Pioneer Woman’s site and had to share.  Using fondant seems like it would require lots of patience, but I love how Pioneer Woman outlines the process for us step-by-step AND with pictures. These are some amazing-looking cupcakes!  The Wii cupcakes were made by Bakerella.

After noticing these by the checkout line at my local Wal-Mart I realized that filled cupcakes must be the latest trend in cupcakes.  This is because Betty Crocker created these FUN da-middles cupcake mixes with filling.  Four flavors are currently available including chocolate cake with vanilla filling, white cake with vanilla filling, and white cake with chocolate filling.  These have come out at the perfect time with school starting back up these would be great to bring to a class room party, bake sale, or as a special after school treat!

Cupcake Balloon Art

Posted by on Wednesday, August 17th, 2011

One of our readers shared this idea with us.  This cupcake balloon art would really impress guests at your next party.  Looks like a lot of balloons to blow up, but totally worth the effort.  I think these would make good picture backgrounds.

Swing Design Cupcake Pet Charms

I don’t think my giant, slobbering bloodhound would appreciate this adornment, but if you’ve got one of those clean, cute, little, foo foo pups, you might want to check it out. What discerning foo foo creature wouldn’t want a rhinestone around her neck? And at Swing Design, a cupcake pup charm is only $5.25!

Real Watermelon Cupcakes

Posted by on Tuesday, August 16th, 2011

Since watermelon the fruit is such a fun, messy, summer treat, what opportunities doe we have to use watermelon fruit in a cupcake?

From an Indiana kitchen came a watermelon cupcake recipe with instructions for making your own wrappers on a silhouette machine.  The recipe uses watermelon gelatin – very neat.

Getting warmer, I found a recipe for watermelon cupcake frosting that offers a substitution of watermelon juice for milk.

Still on my quest, I landed on What About Watermelon?, where I found a cake recipe with 1-1/3 C of watermelon, using watermelon juice in the frosting.  All the fun of the fruit and no napkins required!

Fiskars Trendy Cupcake Toppers

Posted by on Monday, August 15th, 2011

I love these trendy cupcake toppers by Fiskars.  The bright colors make them really fun and after reading the directions they seem easy to make if you have the right tools.  My favorite are the pinwheels although I know the mustache toppers are really popular right now.

Back to School Cupcakes!

Posted by on Sunday, August 14th, 2011

Are you looking for new after-school snack ideas?  Or maybe you’re just looking for an extra special treat for your kids’ first day back?  Twinkle VanWinkle has the winning treat for such an occasion: PBJ Cupcakes!  Not only do they have two all-time favorite kid ingredients (peanut butter and jelly), these cupcakes are also remarkably healthy.  Whole-wheat flour in the cake adds an extra nutritional boost, applesauce cuts back on the amount of oil required, and they are dairy-free, which means they are lower fat. The filling is quite simple: cut a hole in the center of the cupcakes and add peanut butter.  The frosting is buttercream made with strawberry preserves, which can be made healthier by using sugar-free preserves.  And of course, add some colorful sprinkles and fresh, sliced strawberry to make this treat even more enticing (as if it weren’t already!).

    Knitted Cupcake

Posted by on Thursday, August 11th, 2011

I don’t know about you, but once fall weather sets in, I enjoy grabbing a warm beverage and curling up on the couch to do a little knitting.  Even though fall is still a little way away, the rainy weather and cooler temperatures this week have gotten me thinking ahead.  I found this free knitting pattern, and it looks pretty simple.  You could sew it onto a t-shirt as suggested, or you could dream up some other ideas for it.

    Boston Cream Pie Cupcakes

Posted by on Tuesday, August 9th, 2011

One year for my sister’s birthday she had a boston cream pie cake from the Cakery in San Luis Obispo, California.  Her cake was so good it makes me think these Boston Cream Pie Cupcakes by Sugar Plum would be a delicious mini version.
