Gobble, Gobble

Posted by on Sunday, November 6th, 2011

I absolutely love this turkey cupcake idea.  Simply turn a chocolate cupcake on its side, place a nutter butter cookie in front for the neck and head, feather it with candy corn, and then add all the details (the white tips of candy corn for eyes, an almond for the beak, and part of a red fruit roll-up for the wattle).  This would make a cute and edible decoration for a party!

Surprise!

Posted by on Friday, November 4th, 2011

As I was flipping through the latest ad from Bed, Bath & Beyond, I came across the Surprise Cupcake Pan.  This would be the perfect way to use some of that stash of Halloween candy.  Each cavity of the cupcake pan has a post where you can stick your favorite filling, whether it be a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup, Mini Milky Way bar, or a maraschino cherry.  Go try this one out before all that candy disappears!

Pumpkin Patch Cupcakes

Posted by on Thursday, November 3rd, 2011

Halloween might be over, but it’s not too late to make some pumpkin cupcakes.  These would be good for celebrating Thanksgiving, or just for making a special fall treat.  These Pumpkin Patch Cupcakes from Duncan Hines look very impressive, but seem extremely simple to make.  Just roll an orange-frosted cupcake in orange sugar, press bamboo skewers into the frosting for the ribs, and add licorice for the stems and tendrils.  Super cute and super easy!

Snowmen Cupcakes

Posted by on Monday, October 31st, 2011

Yes, you are probably thinking that it is a little too early to be talking about snow, and for most of us it is, but since New England did experience their first snowfall recently, I thought I’d post these cute cupcakes.

Mini Ghost Cupcakes

Posted by on Sunday, October 30th, 2011

Halloween is tomorrow, so you still have time to make some last minute treats.  These would be a seriously quick and easy treat to make, and you might already have all the ingredients on hand.  Just make a batch of mini chocolate cupcakes, pipe some Cool Whip on top, and add chocolate chips for the eyes and mouth.

Spider Cupcakes

Posted by on Friday, October 28th, 2011

I just found this fun spider cupcake idea this morning.  Use chocolate icing and sprinkles to cover a cupcake, use icing to attach sour ball halves to peppermints for the eyes, use a piece of red licorice for the mouth and Reese’s Pieces or M&Ms for the nose, 8 pieces of black licorice for the legs, and 2 pieces of black licorice for the pinchers.

Spooky Cupcakes

Posted by on Wednesday, October 26th, 2011

Check out these spooky Halloween cupcakes, crafted by Sal Garcia, head baker at Urban Cookies and OllieCake in Phoenix.  He is even giving us the secrets to making our own.  For the cupcake, use this Basic Halloween Cupcake recipe, and then click on each picture to see instructions for the frosting and toppings unique to each cupcake.  The ingredients get pretty creative: fruit chews, chocolate sunflower-seed drops, red raspberries, bistro biscuits, chive sprigs, and chocolate-covered pomegranate seeds.

Cupcake Headbands for Baby

Posted by on Tuesday, October 25th, 2011

I was at a Sip ‘n See today for a sweet little 3-week-old girl.  As the new Mom unwrapped some sweet bows for her baby girl, I couldn’t help but wonder what kinds of cupcake bows and headbands were out there for babies.  Here’s what I came up with (click on the pictures to see more).

Broken Glass Cupcakes

Posted by on Friday, October 21st, 2011

Martha Stewart has just created a spooky, new cupcake for Halloween.  Impress your guests with these broken glass cupcakes.  All you have to do to make broken glass is melt sugar, pour it onto a buttered baking sheet, and once it’s cooled you simply break it into pieces.  Then, for a more gory effect, melt some cherry jam and pour it over the “glass” pieces.  Go here to see the recipe and hear Martha explain how to make these terrifying treats.

Caramel Apple Cupcakes-Part 2

Posted by on Thursday, October 20th, 2011

You might remember me posting this recipe several weeks ago for caramel apple cupcakes, but I just found another one that looks really yummy, too!  This one is a yellow cupcake filled with apple preserves and caramels and topped with cinnamon cream cheese buttercream frosting. Enjoy!

Happy National Chocolate Cupcake Day!

Posted by on Tuesday, October 18th, 2011

Wow…it’s a mouthful trying to say that!  Good Morning America has suggested several chocolate cupcake recipes to try in your own kitchen, and I thought I’d pass this one along to all of you.  These are Guinness and Bailey Irish Cupcakes.

Also in honor of the day, they have given us some ideas for making our cupcakes taste and look more like what you find at the bakery.  They suggest not over-mixing your batter, which will result in a lighter and fluffier cupcake, using exact measurements instead of just eye-balling it, and choosing high-quality ingredients (high-quality baking chocolate or real vanilla beans, for instance, create a much more flavorful product than imitations).

Acorn Cupcakes

Posted by on Monday, October 17th, 2011

These cupcakes are cute and very easy to make.  Bake your favorite cupcakes, ice them, unwrap some Hershey’s Kisses and attach mini Nilla wafers to them with a dab of icing, and then use a tube of icing to add a chocolate stem to the wafer.

Brains and Mummies and Other Creepy Things

There are tons of things you can do with piped icing, and you can especially let your creativity run wild around Halloween!  Here are some ideas I found today while browsing Halloween cupcakes.  These would be super simple to make, and I think they would be especially appropriate for a boys’ Halloween party or sleepover.

Halloween Cupcakes in a Jar

Posted by on Thursday, October 13th, 2011

What’s not to love about these cupcakes in a jar?  Here’s what I love about them:

1. Easy to transport to a Halloween party, whether it’s at school, work or someone’s home.

2.  Much less mess, not only during transport, but also when eating (I don’t know about you, but I really don’t like it when I get icing all over my face after taking a bite of cupcake).

3.  It’s unique.  We’re all accustomed to seeing cupcakes in cupcake liners, but not everyone has seen them in glass jars.

4.  These would be fun party favors.  See cute idea with ribbon below.

Scarecrow Cupcakes

Posted by on Tuesday, October 11th, 2011

I just couldn’t resist posting these cute cupcakes.  They look so fun to make–they’d be great for a Halloween party or some other type of fall-themed gathering.  Ingredients include pretzels, graham cracker sticks, chow mein noodles, and your favorite candies.

Jack-O-Lantern Cupcakes

Posted by on Saturday, October 8th, 2011

Make a batch of cupcakes and icing, round up some pretzel sticks, POLO sweets, mini M&Ms, and some orange jellies, and make yourself a jack-o-lantern cupcake.  I have to say that this looks much easier (not to mention way more yummy) than carving a pumpkin.

Fall Leaves

Here in Chicago the leaves are beginning to turn magnificent hues of red, orange and yellow.  I took several walks today just to get out and enjoy the pleasant weather and the spectacular colors of fall.  As I strolled through our neighborhood I wondered what kinds of fall leaf cupcakes were out there, and I found this kit when I googled it.  The kit comes with 24 cupcake liners, 12 cupcake toppers in 4 different designs, and 12 case wrappers.  I love the colors, and these wrappers and toppers would really dress up your cupcakes.

Owl Cupcakes

Posted by on Thursday, October 6th, 2011

Owls seem to be all the rave these days.  I see them everywhere, from baby clothes to jewelry to school supplies.  Cupcakes are no exception; there are plenty of owl designs out there.  I love the creative candy selection used to make these (Mike & Ikes, jelly beans, gummy rings, and frosting).

Be sure and take a look at some previous owl cupcakes posted on ATC (Halloween Hoot Owls and owls made from oreos, Reese’s Pieces, and candy corn).  Owl cupcakes seem to be a great way to use up some extra Halloween candy…or a great excuse to go buy some of your favorite candy!  You can definitely be creative with these and come up with your own unique combinations.

Caramel Apple Cupcakes

Posted by on Wednesday, October 5th, 2011

When I think of fall, apples come to mind pretty quickly.  There are trips to the apple orchard, hot apple cider on a crisp, cool evening, warm apple pies, apple-scented candles, and of course, caramel apples.  These caramel apple cupcakes from Taste of Home would be a yummy and festive way to welcome the fall season.

Candy Corn Cupcake Stand

Posted by on Tuesday, October 4th, 2011

How you present your cupcakes can be (almost, but not quite) as important as the cupcakes themselves.  If you’re in the mood for a fun Halloween craft project, you might take a look at this simple, yet attractive cupcake stand.  Step-by-step instructions and a list of supplies can be found here.  It’s no doubt that the most challenging part of this project would be keeping yourself from gobbling up the candy corn before it’s all glued on!

Trick or Treat!

Posted by on Saturday, October 1st, 2011

Halloween costumes are tons of fun, but we all know that the candy is pretty important, too.  Of course, every kid needs a special treat bag where they can stash away their goodies.  This cupcake treat bag from Pottery Barn Kids would be excellent for holding all those tootsie rolls and gobbstoppers and snickers bars.  Be sure and check out Pottery Barn’s accompanying cupcake costume as well.  Happy trick or treating!

Cupcake Party Favors

Posted by on Thursday, September 29th, 2011

ATC sponsor Diva Entertains offers a wide variety of party favors and supplies.  Of course, no party is complete these days without cupcakes, and Diva Entertains has just added a fabulous, new item to their line of cupcake favors.  Consider these ceramic cupcake jars for your next party.  Guests will be pleased to have a cute memento from your party, and they will also be pleasantly surprised to find some tasty cupcake-flavored cookies inside.  There are four color and flavor options to choose from (highlighted in the picture).

Cupcake Dragon Art

Posted by on Tuesday, September 27th, 2011

Artist Jonathan Arras has combined the world of cupcakes with the world of dragons in his watercolor art.  If you’re a fan of mythical creatures, then head on over to his webpage, Spirals in Love.  He says that some of the common themes in his artwork are “delirious love, loneliness, and giant desserts”.  I don’t know about you, but I really love the giant dessert part, especially when it involves cupcakes, as this painting does below.  His work has also been featured on All Things Cupcake before, so be sure and check that out as well.

Fall Cupcake Collars

Posted by on Sunday, September 25th, 2011

These cupcake collars would make a fun and simple craft project for your kids, and would add a nice fall touch to your next gathering.  Simply choose a template (most are less than $1), print it onto white cardstock, laminate it, and cut it out.  Then place the cupcake into the hole and use some tape to secure the collar to the cupcake.

Fashion-Conscious Cupcakes

Posted by on Saturday, September 24th, 2011

In Southington, Connecticut, Frosted Couture Cupcakes has just opened.  You won’t find names like “chocolate” and “vanilla” here.  Their cupcakes are all named after famous designers.  You will encounter flavors such as “Cannoli Klein”, “Chocolate Chip Gucci Dough”, and “Rock and Raspberry Republic”.  They even have a fall collection with flavors like “Apple and Olivia” and “Cole Haan Cinnabon”.  These cupcakes not only look tasty, but they are also exquisitely designed.
