Right now I am really looking forward to the end of final exams when I can go home and spend time with my family baking and wrapping christmas presents! When I came across the Novice Chef’s blog I immediately wanted to bake everything and the delicious recipes only made me want to head home for the holidays sooner. It’s hard to choose just one cupcake recipe to share with you when there are several to choose from in the Novice Chef’s recipe archive. The first one that caught my eye was the Biscoff cupcakes with marshmallow frosting. My sister loves Biscoff! When we were in Belgium over the summer she went crazy for the speculoos ice cream so I know she would love these cupcakes.

I personally would like to try making the Samoas cupcakes. Samoas are my favorite Girl Scout cookie and I have attempted homemade bar verisons of the cookie but have yet to try making a cupcake version. The cinnamon vanilla cupcakes with candied ginger also sound perfect for the holiday season but what about something a little different? Read the rest of this entry »

Do you remember cinnamon toast crunch breakfast cereal? I always think of the commercials from the 1990s with Wendell and the other bakers which used the slogan “it’s the taste you can see.”
Cinnamon Toast Crunch cupcakes can now be added to the list of breakfast cupcake, along with pancakes, cinnamon rolls, Pop Tart, and Cap’n Crunch Cookie cupcakes. These cinnamon toast crunch cupcakes are the creation of Your Cup of Cake and they have me craving that cinnamunchcruncy taste!

Happy first day of Fall! This year I’m really looking forward to the cool weather, warm colors, and seasonal foods. Last week I picked up some apples at a local farmers market and I’m already craving more. I know I’ll have to buy more because I really want to bake these caramel apple pie cupcakes that I saw yesterday. As an apple and a cupcake lover each component sounds delicious, from the cinnamon cupcake and apple pie filling, to the caramel frosting. The Craving Chronicles came up with these festive cupcakes and the recipe can be found on the original post.

I just finished reading the book Modoc, it’s the true story of the greatest elephant that ever lived. The elephant works in the circus for several years and when talking about the sounds and smells of the circus the smell of popcorn is mentioned. These caramel popcorn cupcakes sound like perfect circus food, or since state fair season is approaching, I also think they would be a great state fair treat. I have yet to see cupcakes at my local state fair, the NC State Fair but if they had these I would be sure to try one! The cupcakes were created by 6 Bittersweets and the cupcakes are made with creamed corn and cornmeal then topped with caramel buttercream.

Do you have a sweet tooth? I know I do! I think it’s almost a requirement for cupcake fans to have a pretty big sweet tooth. I love these creative Sweet Tooth Cupcakes by who other than Erica from Sweet Tooth! How fitting! She also made these Mickey Mouse Cupcakes we blogged about in March. She comes up with some very creative ideas! I think these tooth cupcakes are super cute and really look like teeth except they look good enough to eat! In her post she shares her recipe for marshmallow fondant and the directions for how to make these cupcakes.

If I was a coffee drinker I would definitely make these caramel frappucino cupcakes that Sweet Tooth made for a friends’ birthday. These cupcakes consist of mocha cake filled with homemade caramel sauce, topped with whipped cream frosting then drizzled with more caramel sauce.

We just found an interesting interview with Mia Bauer, the cofounder of Crumbs Bake Shop at a cool new blog called No Joe Schmo. Crumbs Bake Shop churns out 1 million cupcakes per month at 36 different locations across the country! That’s a whole lotta cupcakes! They always roll out a new “Cupcake of the Week” and always feature a “Cupcake of the Month.” Our photo is of July’s S’mores Cupcake: chocolate cake filled with vanilla cream cheese frosting, topped with chocolate cream cheese frosting and covered with chocolate chips, marshmallows, and graham cracker pieces. Yum! Who needs a campfire?

And, Crumbs is the only publicly traded stock for a cupcake company, so if you’re looking to invest…

Bonjour! Aujourd’hui, nous sommes a Paris! Good morning ~ today, we go to Paris. On our week-long trip abroad for cupcakes, we’ve been to Spain and Holland, and now on to la belle France.
“Elo les Cupcakes” is the name of the blog and the recipes range from “cupcakes a la clementine et mousse au chocolat” – we all know “mousse au chocolat” – to “les croquants gingembre et caramel.”

Avec mousse au chocolat!
Just a moment on the “croquants gingembre et caramel” (croquants ginger and caramel). The flavor ingredients are the crystalized ginger, caramels, and “golden syrup.” In England, “golden syrup” means the brand Lyle’s. It is sweeter, thicker, and smoother flowing than natural honey. It is a processed sugar product. You can use honey as a direct substitute.
A demain mes amis du cupcake! Until tomorrow!

More in my week-long series, using foreign blogs for summer cupcake ideas. Yesterday, we were speaking Spanish for super cute, beach umbrella cupcakes. Today, we’re working in Dutch to figure out baking cupcakes in sea shells!

Sea Shell Cupcakes
Even if you’re land-locked in South Dakota, you can find sea shells for this recipe at cooking shops. Primarily used for dishes like Coquilles Saint-Jacques, leave it to Carola Damen in Boskoop, Netherlands to think to use sea shells in lieu of cupcake wrappers!
And, take note that Carola starts the cupcake by placing an edible “pearl” under the cupcake batter and ends with chocolate sea shell decorations on top. Carola makes use of edible body paint to achieve her silvers and golds.
If anyone speaks Dutch and would care to help us understand even more about the recipe, please let us know.

From these fleetingly hot days of summer in Upstate New York, I thought I’d take you on a getaway this week to go baking cupcakes in kitchens in foreign countries. I’ve scouted out the bloggs for the best-looking cupcakes with photo instructions and recipes.

Summer Cupcakes
We start our tour with the cutest summer cupcakes on the planet! How creative are these? La Despensa Del Gnomo blog uses the universal image of the drink umbrella with fondants to create beach scenes, from towels to starfish to shovels. The cupcakes are bottomed-off with palm tree wrappers.
Can any of our Spanish-speaking readers act as our translator tour guide? One of the ingredients is that yum word “Nutella.” But just how it fits into the cupcake is the question.
Do take a moment to click on her “cupcakes” category in the blog. One of her recipes is for Papaya cupcakes – another great summer cupcake idea. How fun to wander through foreign kitchens to bring their local flavors to our own!

Okay, I admit it — I’m kind of a hippie, and I’m kind of raising a hippie daughter, which is why I am so inspired by these “tie-dyed” (air-brushed) cupcakes from Simply Sweets!

Hallelujah! I finally made it to the beach today. I live on an Island and you think that getting to the beach would be easy, but with a busy summer so far and a handful of rainy weekends it has been a lot harder than expected. While I was at the beach, I was wondering if there was any cupcake bathing suits out there. And there are!
Pink Cupcake Halter Top Bathing Suit from AMI Clubwear

I also found this great Pink Cupcake Swimsuit Cover Up

This felt cupcake idea would be a simple and relatively cheap (not to mention mess-free) way to keep your young kids occupied over the summer, especially on a long road-trip. All you need is some different colors of felt and a pair of scissors. If you are a tad-bit artistically challenged like me, then you can download a free template here for all the pieces (cupcakes, liners, and frosting). Read the rest of this entry »

Joy Cho, founder and editor of Oh Joy! seems to always be eating something delicious. Most recently she shared her sweet treat, a cupcake in a cone from Milk. Located in Los Angeles, California, Milk seems to have something for everyone with a bakeshop, ice cream parlor, food, and drinks. If you live to far away to visit Milk yourself, you could always make your own cupcakes in ice cream cones using the recipe from Real Simple or this recipe we shared with you a while back.
