Pantone Cupcakes
Posted by hungry runner on Friday, February 17th, 2012Pantone paint chips are really popular right now, remember the cupcake yellow mug? My sister loves paint chips and I had thought about making her paint chip cupcakes, thinking my idea was original but it turns out Pantone cupcakes have already been made! I found Bocaditos y Colores (Erika) flickr page which features her version of Pantone cupcakes.
ATC Review: Cupcakes, Cookies, & Pie, Oh My!
Posted by hungry runner on Wednesday, February 15th, 2012Hello, Cupcake! is a cupcake cookbook by the creative food stylist Karen Tack and coauthor Alan Richardson. The original book in the series came out in 2008, followed by What’s New, Cupcake? and the most recent book, Cupcakes, Cookies, & Pie, Oh My! was released just last month. Over the years we have shared with you many recipes from the books and from the Hello, Cupcake What’s Newsletter. We here at ATC were sent the latest book to review.
Cupcakes, Cookies, and Pie, Oh My! Goes beyond cupcakes to include cakes, cookies, pies, rice crispy cereal bars and more! When I first flipped through the book I was impressed by all the new ideas. Since I have Hello, Cupcake! and What’s New, Cupcake? I initially wondered how many more unique cupcake ideas could there be? The answer was lot! I actually had a hard time deciding which recipe to test. For every occasion you’ll find a new quirky and cute idea. Read the rest of this entry »

And each idea comes with photographs and instructions. It’s inspiring! Want to make a giant pink princess crown out of nine cupcakes? Or how about a cute blue whale out of 13 cupcakes? Or an almost cuddly teddy bear out of 19 cupcakes? Or a soccer ball? Flip-flops? Polka-dotted dinosaur? All of this could be yours!
Wilton Kids
Posted by cupcakeSerenity on Tuesday, January 24th, 2012I was recently wandering around my local Meijer when I discovered that Wilton has a new (and very exciting) line of kids’ cupcake decorating fun. If you’ve got a little baker (or decorator) in your life, you should definitely check this out. Or, even if you don’t, you still might want to check it out.
And here’s a video demonstration of the “Topping Tornado.”
Elmo Cupcakes!
Posted by cupcakeSerenity on Thursday, January 19th, 2012My son (3) claims that Elmo is drastically underrepresented in the cupcake world. But I just found this decorating idea at This Mommy Loves, complete with instructions. She recommends red Wilton cupcake wrappers, but I’ve also seen Elmo cupcake wrappers at my local craft store, so you might want to look for those too!

Sparkly New Year!
Posted by The Cupcake Faerie on Sunday, January 1st, 2012
So my theme word of the year is “sparkly,” and what better place to start than with sparkly cupcakes!
There are cupcakeries named “Sparkle Cupcake Company.”
There are cupcake products with “sparkle.”
And then there is “Sparkle and Hay” with step by photo step illustrations of how to make these beautiful, sparkly cupcakes. Their website and Facebook are all about rustic country chic weddings, so kick up your heels and get into your kitchen, turn on a little Sugarland, and start the new year off with sparkle!

These look so fabulous and they are visualually stunning!
Cupcake Graffiti by Duff
Posted by cupcakeSerenity on Friday, December 30th, 2011I am so excited. I just found a very cool new thing to play with. Duff, the creator of all cool things cake, makes cupcake spraypaint! Okay, well, it’s not really spraypaint–it’s completely edible, but it’s just as fun and cool looking as spraypaint. According to Duff’s website, Duff started out as a “graffiti artist,” I’m assuming, with actual paints. You can watch a cool video of Duff using the spray on color here!

I just treated some friends to a batch of graffitied cupcakes, and I didn’t hear any complaints. This spray color looks professional, and it is quick and easy to use. I purchased the pink (had to, my daughter was with me) and the silver, but you can also get gold, red, orange, yellow, blue, purple, and green. I can’t wait to get more! I found the colors at Michaels for $4.49 each, but I found them on the Duff website for only $3.99. One can covers 4 dozen cupcakes!

It’s Christmas Crunch Time!
Posted by The Cupcake Faerie on Monday, December 19th, 2011
Good Morning ATC Community! and welcome to the official start of crunch time. These are the days that we second-guess whether we did enough of everything and end up doing too much!
If you’re like me, you’ve baked a fair amount of holiday treasures.
But holiday week is a bit like a marathon and, in the home stretch, who isn’t looking for fresh ideas to keep inspired? The challenge I set to myself is whether I can come up with a week of images, recipes, and instructions to keep us all – myself included – at 350F from now through next Saturday.
These Baked Ideas images are cookies, but so fresh and original they will inspire your cupcake decorating ideas. Here’s a smorgasbord of cookie decorating ideas from “Baked Ideas” by Patti Paige, along with the Baked Ideas’ Facebook page and the video on the Baked Ideas mini gingerbread houses. 3,000 each season!
If you’re still looking for last minute gifts, Baked Ideas even sells yoga cookie cutters. How did she do that? Here’s her video on piping royal icing onto each one of the yoga posed gingerbread men and here’s the Baked Ideas gingerbread recipe.
Ah-ha! My Muse gripped that one!
Today, I’m going to springboard those Baked Ideas into spice cupcakes with yoga shapes drawn on the top, including some Sandskrit symbols, such as “Namaste.” And I know just who is on my list for these yoga cupcakes…
Now that’s what I mean about taking inspiration and giving yourself permission to be creative at the holidays! What’s your idea?
Countdown: 6 days.
Holiday Cupcake Picks
Posted by cupcakeSerenity on Friday, December 2nd, 2011Edible Mustache Cupcake Toppers
Posted by hungry runner on Saturday, November 19th, 2011Remember those trendy Fisker’s cupcake toppers we showed you over the summer? Well now Lisa Stroms has a twist on the mustache cupcake toppers, edible mustache cupcake toppers! These are really easy to make, just sketch or print out the mustache shape you want to use as your template and cover with wax paper. Next melt chocolate and fill into a ziploc bag. Snip the corner of the bag and pipe the chocolate following the outline of the template first and filling in the mustache second. Then use chocolate to “glue” on a lollipop stick, once dry you have edible mustache cupcake toppers.
NFL Party Pics
Posted by hungry runner on Saturday, November 12th, 2011While flipping through a magazine an ad for NFL Shop caught my attention. The ad was of a frosted cupcake in a teams colors and topped with a helmet party pic. The party pics come in a package of 24 as part of the NFL cake decorating kit that costs $19.99. There are cake decorating kits for 24 different NLF teams.
Wilton Fondant Flowers
Posted by cupcakeSerenity on Friday, November 11th, 2011
I admit: I don’t have much patience for fondant. I’m just not that artistic. But I finally got around to trying out these fondant flower cut-outs from Wilton, and guess what? It wasn’t so hard!
The cupcakes were ganache-filled chocolate cupcakes with dark chocolate frosting. Yep, I was pretty popular, for a day.
I think they came out pretty cute! Not bad for an amateur!
More Halloween Cupcakes
Posted by cupcakeSerenity on Saturday, October 29th, 2011I just found these Halloween delights at a local bakery, The Bankery, in Skowhegan, Maine. The decorations are all done by hand, and all in frosting. Talk about talented! My son was thrilled, because I couldn’t bring myself to eat the spider, so he got the whole thing! The cat is my favorite, paws down! Happy Halloween!
Mummy Face Cupcakes
Posted by hungry runner on Friday, October 28th, 2011Last year we shared with you an idea from the authors of Hello Cupcake/Whats New Cupcake on how to create a mummy out of cupcakes. For an alternative mummy cupcake Annie from With Sprinkles on Top offers the idea of making the cupcake faces look like mummies! She bought the eye from a local candy store but I’m sure white candy with a drop of chocolate will have the same effect!
