Work has been a bit wild and crazy these last few days as we’re gearing up for the annual Out and About in Rockridge Festival this Sunday. Our store hosts a Picnic in the Street at the festival every year, giving away tons of treats and talking to folks about food. This will be my first year working the event, and I’m excited to be manning the cupcake table. We’re having a kids cupcake decorating station, and I’ll be on hand to help them frost and sprinkle their own little cakes. And I’m pretty sure no one will turn you away if you’re over 18 and want to have some fun too.
I made forty pounds worth of vanilla frosting yesterday! Good heavens it was impressive to look at. We’re going to have 250 each vanilla and chocolate cakes, with both vanilla and chocolate frosting. It’s the largest amount of cupcakes I’ve made in one go. I’m a little sad that I won’t be getting there until the last few hours of the event (due to having to work my other job in the morning), but hopefully I’ll still get to help lots of kids have fun. What could be better than helping them make cupcakes? I mean really…
So if you’re in the Bay Area come on by. We’re also giving away turnovers for the more savory folk. I’d recomend the chicken, its yummy. The spinach on the other hand…. just don’t choose than unless you LOVE mint in your savory food.

I first learned about Heaven from the most unlikely place, a Visa commercial.

Let me explain, I saw a Visa Small Business commerical with a larger than life cupcake and of course it grabbed my attention. Slap a cupcake on anything and I’m all yours.

Of course I had to know more about the business that involved a giant cupcake as big as a building. I found out that the business is called Heaven, and the owner is a fashion model turned baker.

Heaven is a bakery in Bovina, NY where everything is made by hand using local and organic ingredients as much as possible and of course never any kind of preservatives.

The decor is simple, and beautiful. If Martha Stewart opened a bakery, in my mind it would look like this bakery.
