Ghouls love cupcakes.

Posted by on Saturday, September 20th, 2008

My friend Hillary- who is the only other mom at the park dressing her kids in Halloween costumes year-round- brought me this rotten little cupcake today from Suckers Candy Inc. I thought it was the cutest, and my two-year-old loved that it was filled with gummy worms.

Halloween is by far my favorite time of year for cupcake decorating. What are your favorite ghoulish Halloween treats? Send us your Halloween cupcake photos and you might see them posted here! Please be sure to credit the person who took the photo/made the cupcakes if it wasn’t you!

Don’t Even Think of Touching That  Cupcake

By SARAH KERSHAW, The New York Times  Published: September 23, 2007

THE cupcake is at something of a crossroads. Edible icon of Americana, frosted symbol of comfort and innocence, it may not have faced such an identity crisis since first appearing in cookbooks sometime in the 18th century.

As we know, cupcakes have had a whopping resurgence: they are retro-food chic, the thing to eat for people in the know.

But cupcakes have also recently been marched to the front lines of the fat wars, banned from a growing number of classroom birthday parties because of their sugar, fat and “empty calories,” a poster food of the child obesity crisis. This was clear when children returned to school this month to a tightening of regulations, federal and state, on what can be served up between the bells.

A Cupcake On Your iPhone
Elizabeth Woyke, 08.06.08, 6:00 AM ET

With hundreds of applications ranging from games to password-keepers to calorie counters, what’s next for the iPhone?

One firm is betting on virtual cupcakes and Tamagotchi-like digital pets. Viximo, an 11-month-old Cambridge, Mass.-based start-up, has created four iPhone applications that revolve around digital goods–digitally produced images that people buy, exchange and display online.
When the applications debut in September or October, users will be able to exchange digital goods, such as a cupcake to celebrate a birthday or a teddy bear as a get-well gift. Senders will pay anywhere from a few cents to a few dollars for the goods.

The Secrets Of Cupcake Perfection (May 25, 2007)

Taste Of Home Magazine Cupcake Contest Yields Sweet Results

(CBS) Each year, more than 15,000 home cooks submit recipes to Taste of Home magazine in hopes of winning one of the publication’s six national recipe contests.

In the most recent contest, the search was for the best cupcake.

Mary Bilyeu of Ann Arbor, Mich., took the top prize, and showed The Early Show viewers the secrets of her success. She was joined by Taste of Home editor in chief Catherine Cassidy.

Bilyeu, a self-confessed chocoholic, tests her recipes on her 16-year-old son and his friends. Her winning recipe contains four types of chocolate and brewed coffee in both the cake the frosting. According to Cassidy, it was this winning combination, as well as a tender cupcake and fluffy frosting, that made the recipe a stand-out.
