Thank you readers for the Halloween cupcake submissions. We are always happy to hear from you! Unfortunately, I received so many that not all of them can be posted, but I will do my best to post throughout this week the best reader cupcakes I have received!
——–
I know this submission is kind of late, but I thought I would share anyway. I made rainbow cupcakes with Jack Skellington frosting. I know rainbows and halloween don’t usually go together, but I can’t help it, I love any and everything colorful and cupcake and I adore Nightmare Before Christmas, so I just combined my loves into a colorful and cute treat. I also have a cupcake tattoo on my foot.
Love your blog, thanks!

Love the blog!! Here are my Halloween Cupcake Creations. :) I thought they turned out great and wanted to share with you too. – Vanessa

This NPR discussion looks at why cupcakes and cupcake shops have become so popular. The explanation is that we are in an economic bubble similar to what the coffee industry went through. Cupcake shops like Magnolia, in NYC, started the trend that quickly caught on. Now cupcake shops are popping up all over the country. The good news is that according to the this discussion, cupcakes are still going strong and we can expect cupcake shops to continue opening up.

This week’s giveaway comes to us from Etsy seller namethatthing. Her shop specializes in personalized items. She finds the best buys on popular items and can embroider a name, initials or clip art. I was so excited to get this little cupcake tote in the mail from them:

The bag was well made and is probably the cutest cupcake bag I have ever seen. She has so many bags that would be great for gift-giving this holiday season or for goodie bags for a special birthday party. I also love these other cupcakes from her shop:

Now it is your chance to win your own cupcake bag (you pick which one!) and have it personalized! Just go to namethatthing’s shop and take a few minutes to look around. Then come back here to ATC and click on the comment area below. Please tell us what non-cupcake you like best and why. One winner will be chosen on November 9th. Thank you namethatthing for sponsoring this giveaway!

Since I started as contributing to ATC, I have had a lot of “why didn’t I think of that” moments and this was another one. Black Bottom Cupcakes have been a long time family favorite at our house and are possibly my favorite type of cupcake even though some would argue that they are not true cupcakes because they lack frosting. Having said this you would think I would have come up with at least dying the cream cheese filling orange to make them festive for Halloween. That is exactly what Tender Crumb did, and she even took it one step further and tweaked the recipe to make pumpkin cream cheese filling. I know I am late posting this as Halloween has passed but I just found it on tastespotting and figured it’s always a good idea for next year. Plus pumpkin black bottom cupcakes could would be great for Thanksgiving or Christmas or any other day of the year!
I would like to add that black bottom cupcakes are a really easy cupcake to make. The recipe is very simple and they always come out perfect. However I never seem to have enough of the filling so buy some extra cream cheese, just to be safe. And remember you don’t have to dye them orange, you could pick any color or do tye dye!

My idol, Martha Stewart, recently announced the cutest cupcakes of 2009 contest winners and I have to agree they are cute. There’s a total of 18 cupcakes and by the looks of things, I am sure it was hard to narrow it down. My personal favorite are the Hedgehogs, by Ladybug Luggage. The two look like such a cute little couple, with the girl hedgehog wearing a little flower. After checking out her blog, I found that Mr. & Mrs. Hedgehog go on “adventures” which means the couple are dressed up aka decorated differently and even have little children hedgehogs.

I also love the Where The Wild Things Are cupcakes by Kitchen Dough Dough who always has unique ideas. I personally like that they are decorated without fondant and that they are an Old Fashioned Applesauce Spice Cupcake recipe with cinnamon buttercream frosting.

To me, cupcakes are sweet and soft and I wouldn’t initially think that metal could be used to make them. Check out these unique metal cupcake finds from a few Etsy sellers that proved me wrong:

Cupcake Bicycle Bell $22

Cherry Cupcake Nightlight $15

Cupcake Bangle $95

On their way home from Washington, DC the other night, my mom and sister stopped by my apartment to make a special delivery. They had stopped by Georgetown Cupcake and were delivering two amazingly delicious cupcakes to me. The flaovrs were pumpkin spice with maple frosting and chocolate peanut butter swirl. I have tasted a lot of cupcakes and I have to say these were some of the best. My sister warned my that I would not be able to take only one bite of the pumpkin cupcake and she was right! It was just the right amount of pumpkin flavor, and pleasantly moist. There was also the perfect amount of frosting, not too much where it overpowers the cupcake but also not too little. This is not to say that the chocolate cupcake was not excellent, it too was wonderful. Sometimes chocolate cake can be disappointing because it is dry and crumbly but this cupcake was packed with great chocolate flavor. I also really liked the cupcake decorating on each. They were simple yet attractive with the pumpkin cupcake topped with a festive fall foliage colored fondant leaf that was sparkly. The chocolate peanut butter had a simple peanut butter swirl and peanut butter inside.
I checked out Georgetown Cupcake online and they offer shipping which I would highly recommend because these were some of the best cupcakes I have had and I have tasted a lot of cupcakes. They have three options which include a Classic Dozen, Halloween Dozen, and Seasonal Dozen, each costing $29.00

Halloween inspires fear in us… and fear motivates us to innovate? ATC is happy to celebrate the creativity of its readers this Halloween season. Here is a halloween cupcake idea sent in by Erin from Sandy, UT:
I just wanted to tell you how much i love your site and share a cute halloween cupcake idea with all of your readers. My boyfriend Chris and i love to make rainbow/tie-dye cupcakes, so to celebrate the season we put i little twist on the traditional look.
We used the Betty Cocker Neon Gel Food Coloring to get all of these awesome colors(even the green for the icing)
All you need is a boxed white cake mix made according to the instructions. then divide the batter up in to separate bowls and dye each bowl a different color.
Spoon a little bit of each color into a cupcake liner to get the cute layered look then bake according to the box. these cupcakes are always a big hit and very fun to make.

I will give all my thanks to my friend Laura for sending me this link about Irish Cupcakes. I spent three weeks in Ireland and I am sure if I were to taste these cupcakes it would bring me right back to the lovely feeling I had while I was there. These Guinness and Bailey’s Cupcakes came from the website Irish Central. Click HERE for the recipe!

My husband and I decided that our baby girl (Avalon, 7 months) would be a cupcake for her first Halloween. I needed some ideas and found your website! I bought her a knitted cupcake hat from Etsy, made her a cupcake shirt and pants (cupcake iron-ons), and since she is too young to walk, turned her stroller into a giant cupcake. Thank you for your website and inspiration!
Thank you for sharing with step-by-step photos of such a innovative concept! – ATC

I think that we all have that ONE dessert that someone in your family was famous for making! I certaintly do! My Nana always use to make a cake for our birthdays and other holidays. Our birthday would always roll around and she would always ask, ” What kind of cake do you want?’ We had 2 choices, Chocolate Cake or Banana Cake, both homemade. Most people ALWAYS chose the the Chocolate cake. And she would always put it on this super special Birthday Plate.
As the days go on she is unable to make this cake . So my family and I have taken upon ourselves to try and replicate this delcious treat. For some reason most people can not make it right. My mother and brother have successfully made it and now it is my turn. So being the cupcake geek I am put a little twist on them … cupcake style! Here is a quick photo adventure of my cooking venture …

I used a simple buttercream chocolate frosting. They were YUMMMY! If anyone wants the recipe, reply to this with your email and I can send it to you!

Spooks
by Sandra Liatsos
There’s a goblin at my window,
A monster by my door.
The pumpkin at my table
Keeps on smiling more and more.
There’s a ghost who haunts my bedroom,
A witch whose face is green.
They used to be my family,
Till they dressed for Halloween.

I got this tattoo after many months of waiting. My sister and I have always been into cupcakes, and I wanted to show my love for them as well as my appreciation for her being my sister. After endless hours of looking at other cupcake tattoos, I knew it was time to get my own. I hope everyone likes it as much as I do! – Allison

My name is Julie & I am from Gateshead, UK. I would like to contribute my Cupcake tattoo to your fabulous site! I originally had my cupcake done in Nov last year then finally had it “pimped” 2 weeks ago to put the icing on the cake – so to speak! Haha!
I totally love cupcakes & adore my tattoo! It was done by Danny Edwards & pimped by Dan Kelly both of Voodoo Tattoo in Warrington, UK!

Hello!
Here is my cupcake tattoo with my daughter’s nick name. It was done by my friend Jenny a.k.a. “Little” at Good Luck Tattoo in Santa Cruz. – Vanessa

I found myself feeling very stressed-out today so I did what I always do when I am feeling that way: I went cupcake hunting. One of my favorite places to go is one of my local Hallmark stores. I can always find something sweet that I would love to own. Even if I don’t buy everything I see, it cheers me up just to look at cupcakes. Here’s what I found today:

Hallmark had these for each month and at a very reasonable price of only $8 each.
I have several shops that I frequent just looking for cupcake items. Some of my favorites are Kohl’s, Pier 1, and Target. Cupcake bakeries can often double your pleasure. Many times you will not only find yummy cupcakes to eat, but they often have cupcake clothing and knick-knacks for sale. Online I can always find interesting things on Amazon, Etsy and Ebay.
On the way home from my hunt I got to thinking; I wonder where our ATC readers like to go cupcake hunting? Where do they find good cupcake stuff? So let’s hear from you! Click on the comment area below and let us know your hot spots!

Kohls has quite a few cupcake items. I thought I would share two that are fitting for this time of year. One is Cupcake Fairy Wings which would make a cute last minute costume for any little girl. Before you run out to the store be warned that this is an online exclusive and the wings cost $17.99

The second item is a girls cupcake T-shirt that is on sale for $6.30, so sizes are limited. The shirt is pink with the three cupcakes decorated with a ghost, candy corn, and spider on top of each.

Chapel Hill, NC is home to Festifall, which was just a few short weeks ago. This was where I came across Cuckoo Boo. Cuckoo Boo creates one of a kind hair accessories, magnets, badge clips, pacifier clips, chokers, and snack bags. Everything is in fun and bright patterns and prints. What caught my eye and drew me into the tent was of course cupcakes! On their etsy site there are a lot of the cupcake related items that I saw at Festifall.
