Cupcake Bandages

Posted by on Monday, December 6th, 2010

My daughter is three and a half, and has reached the stage where she “needs” a band-aid for everything. Stubs her toe, needs a band-aid. Bumps her head, demands a band-aid. So I am NOT buying her these clever bandages because the entire package wouldn’t last a day.

But maybe you’ll have better luck with your daughter. These cute first aid supplies can be found at Amazon for $3.33.

Effervescent Cupcake Drink Tablets

Posted by on Saturday, December 4th, 2010

I admit, I started laughing when I saw these. Actually, I’m still laughing. This might be cupcake-love gone too far. Effervescent Cupcake Drink Tablets. Just drop one of these babies into your glass of water and voila, you have bubbly cupcake-flavored water. I just don’t know why anyone would want his or her water to taste like a cupcake. Wouldn’t it be easier to just eat a cupcake? The manufacturers urge us not to limit ourselves to water though, claiming that the tablets also work well in milk, juice, and soda. Gross! Although, I can remember a few times in college when these little buggers would have come in handy, but we won’t go there. The manufacturers also recommend slipping them into your friend’s beverage when he or she isn’t looking. All Things Cupcake does NOT recommend nor endorse this! You can buy a tin of these at Amazon for only $6.99. Good luck! (Oh, and if you are not grossed out yet, they also come in bacon flavor!)

Bacon Cornbread Cupcakes

Posted by on Tuesday, November 16th, 2010

If you stick bacon into a cornbread muffin and then add honey buttercream frosting, does it become a cupcake? Yes. It does. This particular bacon cornbread cupcake is enjoying the title of flavor of the month at Frosted Cupcakery in Los Angeles. And while this has nothing to do with bacon, Frosted Cupcakery offers a special service to all you romantics out there. They will artistically place your diamond ring in a cupcake’s frosting, and then giftwrap it for you. I, for one, cannot think of a better way to be asked.

Fleur Daily Cupcake Vases

Sometimes, ideas are so perfect we wonder how no one has thought of them before.  For example:  Plastic cupcake vases that come in six delicious colors.  Brilliant!  They look like cupcakes, but they’re not.  Instead, the top of the “cupcake” is full of little holes, perfectly stem-sized, so you can insert the flowers into the cupcake at just the right angles. And voilà! You have yourself a perfect bouquet.  The vases are unbreakable, reusable, and only cost $10.95.  Learn more about them, or start your collection by visiting Fleur Daily online.

Day of the Cupcake at Sugar Dolls

Posted by on Wednesday, November 3rd, 2010

Sugar Dolls bakery recently celebrated a Day of the Cupcake at Sacred Heart Tattoo of Atlanta, Georgia.  Visitors ate cupcakes, played cupcake games, competed in a cupcake eating contest, and got cupcake tattoos.  I believe the old adage is true, that pictures tell a thousand words, so I will leave them to it …

Sylvia Cupcakes

Posted by on Friday, October 22nd, 2010

Cupcakes go with everything, including the theatre.  Sylvia is a comedic play about a dog and the quarrelsome couple who adopts her.  It is written by A.R. Gurney and was first performed in 1995 at the Manhattan Theatre Club.  Sarah Jessica Parker played the part of Sylvia.  That’s right — the dog.

The play is still popular in theatres all over the country, and Mariel, an ATC reader, just submitted this fabulous photo of her Sylvia cupcakes, which she made to celebrate a production near her!

She cut the pawprints out of colored gumpaste, then rolled white gumpaste into little balls, which she flattened and attached with royal icing.  To make the “dogtags,” she tied scrapbook adornments into a bow, and then cut one side of the bow!  Isn’t she clever?   Thanks for sharing, Mariel!

Second-grader Feeds the Hungry … with Cupcakes!

Posted by on Saturday, October 2nd, 2010

A lovely young lady by the name of Cyanne has made quite a statement by starting a cupcake club in her neighborhood in Arizona.  She, along with some help from her mom, made cupcakes and sold them to family, friends, and neighbors to raise money for the St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance.  She sold her cupcakes for only $1 each, and she raised $125 for the food bank, which enabled the alliance to distribute 875 meals.  If a 7-year-old can do this, it makes me wonder what I could do, what any of us could do.  A lot can be accomplished with a little bit of heart, a little bit of time, and some cupcakes.

S’more Cupcakes Please!

Posted by on Friday, September 10th, 2010

A big thanks to The Twisted Kitchen for allowing us to share this ultracool recipe with you!  Everyone loves S’mores, right?  And how often do you get to use a blowtorch in the kitchen?

S’more Cupcakes
Makes 12 cupcakes and 12 mini cupcakes (approx.)

General notes (before cooking):

  • I used milk chocolate chips to try to get as close to the flavor and texture of the chocolate as possible yet still have a brownie.
  • I highly recommend using cupcake liners for this. I made a few without them, and they were a bit difficult to get out of the pan.
  • Be careful when “toasting” the marshmallow frosting. Those cupcake liners tend to be HIGHLY flammable.
  • It is extremely important you don’t overfill the cupcake liners. I know it’s tough, but resist! The frosting is incredibly sticky and soft, and needs the liners to set properly.

The Little Rawdorable Cupcake Book That Could

Posted by on Thursday, September 9th, 2010

The raw vegan diet seems to be all the rage lately.  Eating raw foods is uber-healthy and good for the planet too.  And “raw foodists” often claim that one doesn’t have to go 100% raw to reap the benefits of consuming raw foods.  Do I want to be healthy?  Of course!  Am I willing to give up cupcakes in order to go raw vegan?  Uh …

Well, thanks to Shannonmarie, who is known to the blogosphere as Rawdorable, I don’t have to.  She has created an amazingly innovative, entertaining, and useful “uncookbook” full of tantalizing raw cupcake recipes.

Her ebook details how to make the “cake,” gives us several different options for yummy frostings, and even describes how to make raw fondant.  Who ever heard of healthy fondant?

Her recipes range from basic to exquisite, from Pumpkin Spice to Citrus Confetti, from Basic Chocolate to Ruby Red Chai.  I’m telling you, Shannonmarie is a genius of the cupcake world.  And she’s one of those rare healthy cupcake geniuses.  (If you don’t believe me, try the Zippi Zucchini Cupcake!)

The book is jam-packed with gorgeous, inspiring photographs.  I’m tempted to blow some of them up and frame them.

The Little Rawdorable Cupcake Book That Could is available at Rawdorable for $12.95.  It will be the best thirteen bucks you’ve invested in a while!

Happy Birthday Keanu Reeves

Posted by on Sunday, September 5th, 2010

Keanu Reeves has always been a bit mysterious, and apparently, he celebrated his 46th birthday this past Friday enjoying a single cupcake, bearing a single candle, by himself outside a film prop warehouse.

There is nothing wrong with a little solitude, especially when it is accompanied by a little sweet.  Happy Birthday Keanu!
