Kate from See Kate Sew used a template to create her own cupcake wrappers from old magazine pages. The wrappers are easy to make and you simply place the cupcake inside the wrapper after baking. I found this pdf template for cupcake wrappers if you are interested in making your own wrappers.
This felt cupcake idea would be a simple and relatively cheap (not to mention mess-free) way to keep your young kids occupied over the summer, especially on a long road-trip. So while I was wandering around Sanford, Maine, in search of All Things Cupcake, I found the coolest pottery studio ever! Get Fired Up is a family-friendly, do-it-yourself pottery studio. First, you choose from a wide variety of pottery pieces, which can cost as little as $3. Then, for a fee of only $5, you get a cool table, clean tools, paints, expert advice, and the firing of your artwork. Then, you return to find your piece on display and you can pick it up! It’s so impressive. My daughter and I have a date to return and make ourselves some clay cupcakes! I’m planning on making myself a nice chocolate cupcake with peanut butter frosting, but her’s will no doubt be purple.
Lately I have had the urge to be crafty! Maybe it’s because of all the awesome websites and blogs out there or because final exams have ended for me and I now have a short summer break, giving me free time for projects. One project on my to-do list is individual cupcake stands like the ones Diary of a Ladybird provides instructions for on her website. The material list is nice and short only requiring superglue, a small/shallow bowl, and an egg cup. The directions are equally easy with the most time consuming part of the project involving waiting for the glue to dry. Check out her original post for the instructions and pictures.
Kristen Ricket blogged about her experience making her own cupcake stand. The supply list was fairly small and included boxes, poster board, tape, glue, paper (in this case rainbow squares) and spray adhesive. Ricket shares both picture and descriptive text direction on the original post if you are interested in creating your own unique cupcake stand.
After a cold, rainy week here in South Carolina it’s supposed to warm up this weekend. If it’s supposed to be warmer where you live, why not spend a little time outdoors and make this cupcake planter to grow your flowers in? This DIY project comes from Whimsy Love. Gather your supplies listed below and head over to Whimsy Love for the rest of the directions!
Supplies: shorter stubby terracotta pots (I found some at Home Depot & some really cool short stubby ones at Fred Meyer), spray paint, acrylic paint, clear spray sealer, rocks (for drainage), potting soil, plants, drill (with 1/4″ drill bit), 1/4″ dowel (Hardware store or Walmart), saw blade, round wooden balls (hardware store).
Also needed, but not pictured: wood glue, paint brush.
Ash from Butterfly Food made these flag cupcake toppers for Valentine’s Day. I like how simple and versatile these toppers are. All you need are bamboo skewers, cardstock, glue and of course, cupcakes. Choosing different colored cardstock allows you to customize these toppers for any occasion. I also really like that she made the skewers different sizes making it more visually appealing.
DIY cupcake toppers seem to be everywhere! Here’s a cute free printable Saint Patrick’s Day cupcake toppers that TomKat Studio blogged last year; of course it could be used this year! To download the toppers, which include three other images, head over to TomKat Studio’s blog. Be sure to look around their site while you’re there, they have lots of other cupcake related freebies!
Last summer I followed Once Wed’s directions to create flower fabric garland. Had I been in cupcake fan mode I would have thought to turn the fabric flowers into cupcake toppers! This is exactly what Paiges of Style decided to do, using the same Once Wed idea she created fabric flower cupcake toppers. These toppers are great because you can customize them to match any color scheme or use up scraps of fabric you have lying around. On her website Paige has great instructions with pictures to help you along the way.
A few weeks ago while looking at Simple Song I noticed the cupcake image shown above. I loved the Pom Pom heart toppers and of course checked out Hank and Hunt’s Etsy page. For $10 you could order a set of six toppers that measure 1.5” by 2” each. This weekend while looking around online I noticed that Jenny from Hank and Hunt was a guest blogger on The Sweetest Occasion and shared a DIY tutorial for how to make the pom pom heart cupcake toppers! Its obviously too late to order the set from their Etsy page and receive them in time for Valentine’s Day tomorrow, but it’s not to late to make your own! If you’re looking for a homemade valentine idea that’s kid friendly these cupcake goodie valentines are just that! Martha Stewart came up with the crafty idea to create goodie bags out of cupcake liners to hold Valentine’s Day treats. Here are the steps:
1. Flatten two paper cupcake liners. Place one liner face up, and lay the other face down on top of it.
2. Lift the edge, and apply glue along a short section. Press to attach; let dry. Continue gluing in sections, leaving the last section open. Fill with candy; seal opening with glue.
3. Cut out heart or other shape from construction paper; add cut-out images, ribbons, or paper or fabric flowers, and write or stamp a note. Glue onto center.
Fossil, which most know as primarily a wrist watch company also offers handbags, wallets, and clothing. This month Fossil has a DIY lookbook with great Valentine’s Day projects from some amazing blogs. Two blogs which I read on a regular basis came up with DIY projects related to cupcakes. Twig & Thistle blogged about her DIY Valentine Heart Wreath made out of cupcake liners. Creature Comforts came up with homemade cupcake wrappers and toppers.

The one really sad thing about growing up, is that you don’t look ‘too cute to boot’ in clothes like this anymore! I love cupcake clothing for my little girl, but even she is starting to grow out of the super cute look and into the more sassy attire. Though she is still a cupcake lover.. to eat that is!

I came across My Favorite Things because one of my favorite artists, Stephanie Fizer has created illustrations for them, like these really cute robots. My Favorite Things is a website that sells clear stamps and while looking around on the site I noticed quite a few cupcake stamps. Most of the stamps are pretty girly looking like a bunny named Flopsey holding a cupcake or a little girl hugging a cupcake (each shown above). The prices for the stamps range in price from $9.00-11.00.
Additionally, I really like the cupcake card template which features the à la modes birthday girl stamp. It’s a downloadable file that costs $1.95.
I know I post about Sweet Paul a lot but I love everything he creates! So while the gift giving season is behind us I couldn’t help but share this idea for cupcake flowers. I am continually looking for ways to display and deliver cupcakes. When giving cupcakes as a gift I like something that is covered to protect the cupcakes which is why I like these cupcake delivery boxes created by Simply Modern Mom. These do-it-yourself boxes are made out of card stock. Although she suggests using something a bit sturdier to support the cupcakes, now that she has tested out the boxes. Pin the Candle on the Cupcake Game
Why didn’t I see this before I had my daughter’s cupcake birthday party? Argh! You could also make a pink or blue one and it would be a perfect baby shower game too. Or maybe make a red and green one for a holiday party? The possibilities are endless!
You may recall earlier in the week we showed you examples of a fantastic set up for a Cupcake Birthday Party, but since then we have received a number of requests asking how that adorable little cupcake beanie was made!
Well now we can share the answer, which is Teresa’s ‘The Art of Crochet‘ website.
There is a load of information on this site about all things crochet, but the instructions for this beanie (in adult size) are all available on one page along with video instructions teaching you how to make each and every crochet stitch!
Unfortunately there is no pattern for a child, but you can just make the cupcake wrapper smaller to fit a smaller head and not put as many rounds on your cupcake topping!

One of readers Traci recently sent in photos of her daughter’s first birthday party and she took their chosen theme ‘cupcakes’ to the extreme! Traci indicated that All Things Cupcake provided much of her inspiration, but I have to say she has provided me with all the inspiration I need to organize my daughter’s 6th birthday party next year. Megan has been longing for a cupcake party, and there is no way you can get more cupcakey than this!
The first photo is of their create a cupcake stand! This would be great fun for all children allowing them to frost and then decorate their cupcakes. The awesome little cupcake containers were from the Posh Box on Etsy allowing the guests to take their creations home! And with a bit of ribbon and some buttons, Traci made them so much fun!

There are many ways to create a cupcake christmas tree, including using cupcakes on a christmas tree cupcake stand, or what I am talking about today, and that is decorating your regular every Christmas fake or real Christmas tree with cupcake decorations!
Start with heaps of tinsel, and then put up your cupcake Christmas lights if you can get them, if not go with candy cane lights, or failing that normal lights. Then decorate all the rest of your tree with cupcake based ornaments! Here are some cupcake decoration ideas:

Oh, and one word of caution, ensure your cupcake lights are safe to use with paper if you are making paper streamers as you don’t want a cupcake bonfire!
There are so many amazingly creative people out there who have grabbed hold of the cupcake craze, but instead of whipping up a tornado of flour and sugar in their kitchens have taken their ideas to the craft room.
One such person is Vanda, who is author of the blog Thingies. Here she experiments with many things crafty including these fantastic FabriCupcakes. My immediate thought is to stick pins in their plush tops, as they would make an awesome pin cushion, but as Vanda explained to me, lots of kids love these because they can decorate them with eyes and smiles and you can even hang them as the perfect soft mobile for babies!
For me, I think they are super cute!
Bird Craft: Party Supplies and Printable Fun! offers a tutorial on how to make these easy paper cupcake stands. All you need to do is download the template from her website and follow these three easy steps:
1. Print your template onto patterned cardstock or print onto standard A4 paper and transfer it to a material of your choice later – You can use MDF, cardboard, polystyrene sheets, coloured cardstock etc…
2. Then cut the parts and slot the feet together, fixing with a dot of hot glue if necessary. Its quite self-explanatory when you look at the pictures…
3. Add some more hot glue onto the feet and place the stand top on, pressing firmly.
Not only do I love how easy these are to make but I like that you can customize them to suite your needs. If you have a simple stand you can make your cupcake decorations more involved. If your stand has a busy pattern then you can add a cupcake with minimal decorations. Since the holiday party season has begun you could easily make the stands to match the holiday you are celebrating!
