Posted by on Thursday, September 30th, 2010

Last Halloween we shared with you two options of Martha Stewart cupcake liners available at Michael’s Craft Stores.  This year, the Martha Stewart website offers 4 different designs for standard size liners and two additional options for mini cupcakes!  The prices vary depending on the design with some images, for example the vampire icon or blood spatter wrappers, costing as little as $2.47 for a package of 48 wrappers. Or the most expensive designs include the Happy Halloween mini wrappers which cost $9.40 for 96 wrappers in two designs.

My sister has always loved candy corns; so much so that my mom even made her a candy corn costume one year for Halloween.  When I saw these cupcakes I immediately thought of my sister and I think I’ll have to make them for her this year! The Curvy Carrot created these candy corn frosted cupcakes which are great because they are so simple yet festive!

Looking for a last minute 4th of July cupcake idea?  All you need for these semi-homemade firecracker cupcakes are 24 cupcakes, angel flake coconut, cool whip, food coloring, and red licorice.  Follow the three easy steps in the directions which include dying the coconut red and blue.  Then top each cupcake with cool whip then coconut and finish by inserting the licorice into the top of each cupcake.

The Meringue Bake Shop of Placentia, California is celebrating the 4th in creative style with cupcake kabobs!  They almost look too sweet to be true.  Click here for a complete tutorial on how to make your own kabobs!  I am thinking these would be fun for the winter holidays as well (of course, with a slightly different color scheme)!

American cupcakes visit London

Posted by on Monday, June 21st, 2010

Reading about the new release of 4.3.2.1, an new gritty thriller-action style movie in which the main characters, four women, encounter diamond thieves I came across a cupcake loving actress. Jo, is one of the four leading women in the movie and is acted by up and coming American Emma Roberts, star of Hotel for Dogs and Nancy Drew.  Apparently she loved her time in London, especially visiting the Hummingbird Bakery.

Of course I was intrigued and had to check out their site, and it is mouthwateringly good. The red velvet cupcake is reputed to be heavenly, and it seems Emma Roberts agrees.  In a story on Music Rooms, she explains her lack of love for vegetables, and admits that in fact the cupcake diet was her favorite!  Who could disagree with that!

April Fool’s Day Cupcakes

Posted by on Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

Tomorrow on April Fools Day, cupcake lovers could trick their friends and family with fake cupcakes.  One of the best fake cupcake creations is made from mini meat-loafs with mashed potatoes as the frosting and carrots for the sprinkles.  I have made these before and they are always a huge successes because they so closely resemble a real cupcake.  These “cupcakes” also work well because they are in fact edible, if you are brave enough to try one!  If you would rather be a little more cruel, these directions from instructables detail how to make inedible fake cupcakes.  Have fun with it and don’t get fooled yourself!

Easter Cupcakes

Posted by on Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

Like many of you out there, I am planning on baking several dozen cupcakes this week to celebrate Easter.  Although I do love cupcakes (duh!) I have to admit that sometimes I am not the best at completing recipes above a beginner level.   So today I went to three of my favorite online spots to find cupcake decorating ideas and recipes.  They needed to be relatively easy but have a cuteness level that was through the roof!  Just try to look at these cupcakes without saying “Awww…” !

Sweetheart and Sourpuss: Valentine’s Cupcakes by Cakelab

Posted by on Friday, February 5th, 2010

Valentine’s Day is a holiday for lovers. So what the heck are you supposed to if you’re single?  Cakelab of NYC has a solution: their Sourpuss Cupcake Pack. Instead of the usual romantic sentiments, the Sourpuss pack features conversation dot cupcakes with messages like “H8 You”, “Let it go”, and “WTF”.  You can also drown your sorrows in the accompanying Sourpuss pack flavors of banana split, chocolate chip cookie dough and black bottom.

Cakelab is not one to drive off customers – they’ve got a Sweetheart pack too, for those who have them :) This assortment comes with more conventionally messaged champagne-flavored conversation dots as well as red velvet, chocolate turtle, and chocolate covered strawberry cupcakes.

I really appreciate Cakelab’s approach to cupcakes for the upcoming heart-shaped holiday. They’re willing to be typically adorable and inventively bitter, thus capturing both sides of the Valentine’s Day market.

Cupcake Finds at Ben Franklin Crafts

Posted by on Sunday, January 31st, 2010

As many of you know, cupcake hunting is a fun passion for me.  More than that, most of my friends have turned into cupcake hunters too!  Every week they are calling and emailing me to tell me about some wonderful little treasures they have discovered.   Many times I have seen (or bought!) the items already but not always.  Thank you my wonderful friends!  This week one of my best gal pals sent me these photos of cupcake finds at Ben Franklin Crafts:

I checked Ben Frankin’s  website and unfortunitely these items are not sold online.

Cupcakes All Year Round: The Hello, Cupcake! Calendar

Posted by on Saturday, January 30th, 2010

As I was walking past some storefronts this afternoon, I noticed something I had never seen before: a cupcake calendar.  My boyfriend confirmed that while this was the first year he had seen it too, the Hello, Cupcake! calendar is in stores all over town. It’s sort of a companion to the Hello, Cupcake (Irresistably Playful Creations Anyone Can Make) book, being as it’s made by the same folks out of their favorite illustrations from the book.  From the pictures on their website (the little doggiecakes are the on front cover of the calendar), it looks like a darn cute way of keeping track of the days as well as a serving as a muse for the creative in the kitchen.

New Years Cupcakes

Posted by on Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

We received these photos and email from ATC Reader Holli…
Hi there, its Holli. I just wanted to share my Vanilla Cinnamon New Years cupcakes with you guys! I did a simple vanilla cake mix ( I was on vacation so I cheated! ) and added a tablespoon of cinnamon to the mix! Poured the batter into gold liners, then sprinkled them with cinnamon sugar before baking! Then for the frosting I used a simple butter+powered sugar recipe then added a little vanilla and cinnamon! I used a plastic bag to pipe the frosting ( I left my piping bags at home =[ ) and decorated them with silver edible glitter and ivory pearlized sugar candy. Topped with a Happy New Years sign! =]
<3Holli
sent two pictures of the cupcakes, and one of me and my cousin who helped me make them! I’m on the left! =] hope your new years was awesome!
Thank you for sharing your cupcakes with us! They look so delicious!
