I was perusing Etsy the other day when I stumbled upon Geneva Designs. This is a great little business with lots of homemade good such as vintage aprons, kids styled aprons, sewing kits and hot pads. But it was these adorable cupcake ones that they have just loaded onto Flickr that grabbed my attention! I love how bright and fun they are!
Given Christmas is only just around the corner, my eyes are alert for the best Xmas bargains I can find. These would be perfect for any baker or cupcake maker! You can never have too much in the way of hot pots or hand towels especially if they are covered in cupcakes or, as the second ones are, the tools of the trade.
Last week Oh Joy! Eats posted this great combination of cupcake related items. My favorite item out of the six is definitely the cupcake measuring cups available from Urban Outfitters. The 1 cup, 1/2 cup, and 1/3 cup measurements are the bases that look like wrappers. Then my favorite part is that the icing doubles as the 1/4 cup measurement! They are only $18.00 which would make them a great, under $20.00 holiday gift.

Cupcakes are fast becoming more than just a tasty little dessert or afternoon treat but a key trend in design and decor. More and more we are seeing more people adorn themselves with a super cute cupcake tattoo, wear a cupcake apron, have funky cupcake shoes, and dress their bed in cupcake covered sheets and blankets, but where will it end? Personally I have no idea, I think we are still just on the edge of the cupcake mountain, and it appears that Angel Heart Designs agrees with me with her latest creation – cupcake drawer pulls.
But there is an interesting story behind these pulls, as they actually were originally created as a magnet that Angel Heart Designs, ATC Sponsor used to send to customers as a little thank you gift. One customer however decided that her fridge was not the perfect place for it and glued it instead to a cabinet door handle.
It looked so good, that she requested more and the range of cupcake door pulls in a range of colors, flavors and custom designs was born!
So today cupcake door pulls tomorrow…
Continuing the run of Uncommon (cupcake!) Goods posts, here is just the sweetest little sugar and creamer set I’ve ever seen. Artist Beth Mueller hand-paints these herself in her studio in Vermont. I love how adorably but simply she conveys the ideas of cream and sugar! This ceramic duo isn’t cheap, but then again you’re getting what you pay for in cute creativity and handmade in the USA quality.
I’ve heard of some strange collections on my journeys, such as Graham Barker’s Navel Fluff Collection, or the Air Sickness Bag collection, both of which I would rather not have in my own home! But what about cupcake pans?
Naturally I say I have a collection, from your standard cupcake pan to your mini, your loaf style and the mini Bundt style which is my latest addition, but they hardly feature on my walls. The only time these are visible is stacked beside the sink covered in baked batter. So I was surprised when I stumbled upon a question in the Sun News which asked, “when were the earliest muffin or cupcake pans made in the United States?”
The answer is that the origin of most pans date back to the 19th century and if you have a rare one it could be worth up to $500.
So it got me thinking and I wondered exactly how old the first cupcake is? The answer, according to Crazy About Cupcakes, is that they were first mentioned in 1828 in E. Leslie’s ‘Receipts’. Apparently according ‘The Oxford Encyclopedia of Food and Drink in America’ the ‘cup’ part of the “name had a double meaning because of the practice of baking in small containers – including tea cups”.

I rcently tried the Cricut (pronounced cricket) Personal Cutting machine and I found it so amazing. They can cut beautiful paper designs at the touch of a few buttons. Well, here is the newest Cricut machine: The Cricut Cake. I have yet to try this one but it looks like it may revolutionize the cake/cupcake decorating process. My mom recently got me some new products that are supposed to make decorating cupcakes easier. I have not had the time to bake cupcakes yet but I thought I would share the products. If you have either of these, let us know how they work for you.

I find that this time of year is particularly hard for cupcake hunters like me. It seems that many stores use cupcakes in the Valentine’s decorations so now they are popping up everywhere just screaming for me to take them home! I have to use extreme self-restraint because they are all so cute!

Well, we here on the U.S. East coast are in the midst of a large snow storm today that will allow us to have our first white Christmas in many, many years. Have you noticed it’s also snowing here at ATC? In honor of this snowy weather, I went to Etsy and looked up “snow cupcakes” and found some nice little treasures to share with all of you. My husband brought me home a nice little present from BJ’s Wholesale Club this weekend. It was this box of Ghirardelli Triple Chocolate Cupcake Mix.
Recently I have been brave and tried some new scratch cupcake recipes but boxed mixes will always have a special place in my heart. This box came with 2 powdered cake mixes, 2 powdered frosting mixes and liners to make 2 dozen cupcakes total. Both mixes needed a few simple liquid ingredients. Here’s the finished cupcakes:
These cupcakes were so yummy! Although the recipe stated that each bag made 12 cupcakes, I ended up with 15 and had to resort to some Betty Crocker frosting to finish them off (that’s why you see 2 shades of brown). We are also big frosting lovers in my house so if I had put on less I may have had enough for all 15. I added some chocolate sprinkles to a few so maybe these were actually quadruple chocolate cupcakes! They tasted best the same night they were made because the chocolate chips in the cake were still melted. I can’t wait to make the other batch!
