Miglet’s Gluten-Free Bakery Makes Cupcakes for All!

Posted by on Saturday, July 24th, 2010

We usually think of cupcakes as a treat that’s available to everyone. Their small size seems to even make them an option for those with more restricted diets. This, sadly, isn’t entirely true, especially for those with celiac disease and gluten intolerance.  When you can’t eat wheat flour, creating cupcakes becomes a much bigger undertaking.

This is where Miglet’s Cupcake Shop of Danville, CA, comes in to save the day.  Miglet’s specializes in gluten-free baked goods – they started with cupcakes and soon expanded to everything from cinnamon buns to hamburger buns.  Katie Alin, Miglet’s founder, started the bakery after working at The Taylor Family Foundation’s Celiac Camp and at Whole Foods and seeing how hard it was for those with gluten-free diets to satisfy their sweet tooth. Luau Cupcakes!

Posted by on Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

Luau cupcakes!, originally uploaded by Lairy the Cupcake Fairy’s creations.

These sultry July days just make me want to hit the beach with a cold drink and one of those fancy paper umbrellas. Then, I saw this picture on Flickr and realized I also need to bring cupcakes with me. Isn’t this a cool idea? (The decorating I mean, not necessarily my trip to the beach.)

Baking in Bulk

Posted by on Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

Anyone who has checked out Cupcake Bakeshop by Chockylit‘s website knows there’s a standard protocol she follows.  She creates cupcake recipes then blogs about the recipe and images that correlate.  Recenly she deviated from her standard formula with a post that I thought allthingscupcake readers would find helpful. She has five steps that she suggest cupcake bakers follow when baking in bulk.  These steps include finding inspiration and coming up with a high level plan, writing out all recipes, preparing a plan and the ingredients, preparing all the recipes and storing them for final assembly, and finally assembling, packing for delivery, unpacking, and presenting.   For details on these tips be sure to visit Chockylit’s website.

Race Car Cupcakes

Clever Cupcakes yet again prove they are veritable demigods of fondant with this cupcake set for a two-year old’s birthday party. The tire cupcake is my personal favorite – I think it really shows the care they put into their decoration. The theme of the birthday party was the Disney movie Cars. Since Clever Cupcakes doesn’t make a practice of copying the likenesses of trademarked characters, even in fondant, they use opportunities to be more creatively true to their assigned theme.

I’m off to buy some extra food coloring — going to give this one a try!

Wow, these lingerie cupcakes are lookin’ good.  I’ll be sure to keep Look Cupcake in mind next time I hear someone needs treats for their bachelorette party! They’re stuff isn’t cheap, but it’s conveniently located next door to me in Seattle (on Queen Anne Hill) and you cannot beat their presentation. Too bad they only do events – if they had a storefront, I’d stop by to see if these taste as good as they look!

Cupcake Dress by Alice in Cakeland

Cupcake Dress Display by Alice in Cakeland

This lovely dress, which is possibly the best cupcake stand ever, was created by Alice in Cakeland for the kickoff of Amsterdam International Fashion Week at Maison de Bonneterie.  Alice in Cakeland was founded by American transplant Rebecca Treherne, who decided to start up her own bespoke, American-style cupcakery because she “was disappointed to not find an American cupcake that tasted as good as it looked” in the fine city of Amsterdam.  These are some fine looking cupcakes, so I hope that Rebecca has succeeded in her mission to make them taste as good as they look.

A Very Merry Unbirthday

Posted by on Thursday, July 8th, 2010

I personally am a fan of themed parties and  who could resist an unbrithday party?  Found via Oh Joy!, the pictures from Adele’s 10 year old daughter’s party look like as much fun as a tea party with the real mad hatter would be.  Both adults and children dressed up like the characters and enjoyed what look like delicious cupcakes! An unbirthday party would also be the perfect time to make the Alice in Wonderland cupcakes we shared with you.

Let’s Hear it for the Boys!

Posted by on Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

Every week I meet fans our Facebook page and on this main site that have little girls and love to dress them in our precious sweets. I too am included in this wonderful group of moms who have turned their daughters into walking advertisements for cupcakes. There are so many clothes lines out there now for our little princesses that have cupcakes on them.   Just looking in my daughter’s closet today, I counted no less than 15 cupcake shirts, dresses and pants.  I also even had a cupcake birthday party for her just a few years ago.   Well, what about the little men out there? Where are their cupcake items? Are they doomed to Spiderman and Thomas the Tank Engine (my son wears both!) or can they too share in the cupcake fun? Well, I went hunting on Etsy today and found some great items for the boys in our lives!

CakeJournal’s (Cup)Cake Decorating Tutorials

Posted by on Monday, July 5th, 2010

When I was tooling around CakeJournal‘s site after getting info about Louise’s cupcake needle felt pillows, I found her collection of cake decorating tutorials. This made me happy because it reminded me that the creation of fancy cupcake decorations are indeed within even my beginner’s grasp.

In my quest to find new and interesting cupcake news for ATC, I see the incredible craft and artistry that goes into decorating cupcakes and cakes. I’m always  impressed by the creativity of these pieces.  However,  most of the time  I can’t say that I find inspiration in them because it often looks like a level of composition and sculpture that’s well out of my league. I think that CakeJournal’s collection of tutorials is just the thing to bridge that gap.

Firecracker Cupcakes

Posted by on Sunday, July 4th, 2010

Looking for a last minute 4th of July cupcake idea?  All you need for these semi-homemade firecracker cupcakes are 24 cupcakes, angel flake coconut, cool whip, food coloring, and red licorice.  Follow the three easy steps in the directions which include dying the coconut red and blue.  Then top each cupcake with cool whip then coconut and finish by inserting the licorice into the top of each cupcake.

4th of July Cupcake Kabobs

Posted by on Sunday, July 4th, 2010

The Meringue Bake Shop of Placentia, California is celebrating the 4th in creative style with cupcake kabobs!  They almost look too sweet to be true.  Click here for a complete tutorial on how to make your own kabobs!  I am thinking these would be fun for the winter holidays as well (of course, with a slightly different color scheme)!

Striking out of the World Cup

Posted by on Saturday, July 3rd, 2010

The World Cup is now almost all but over, and is over for the majority of readers, with the USA going down to Ghana, England being defeated by Germany and Australia, well I’m not going to dwell on Australia as we didn’t even make it through our rounds :(

But before I leave this subject alone for another four years!  I just want to bring you one more fantastic giant football cupcake.  This one comes from Parklife Cakery in England, which they made to support England through the World Cup.   I think it is just fantastic, and I love the little players down the bottom! Too cute!

These darling pillows are by cupcake and cakecraft enthusiastic Louise of CakeJournal.  Besides the fact they look great, you know that they were made with love and care because needle-felting is not a quick process.  I wonder if someone can persuade her to make some for sale…

I was clued into this week’s nerdcake by Cupcakes Take the Cake. While Rachel of CTTC hasn’t watched the show, I have and it makes these cupcakes all the more adorable. We have the Unicorn Magic Baking Company out of LA to thank for these hilarious creations.

Tattoos for Cupcakes from the Mind Behind Ace of Cakes

Cupcakes by Cupcake Queen with Duff Goldman Animal Skin Cupcake Tattoos (photo courtesy of Cupcake Queen)

I heard about this nifty new product from one of the cupcake blogs I regularly read, Way More than 52 Cupcakes by Cupcake Queen out of DC.  As it turns out, Duff Goldman of Ace of Cakes is rolling out his own line of cake accessories at Michael’s which includes edible cupcake tattoos.

According to the Michael’s website, you just lay down a nice even layer of frosting and then lay down the tattoo(s).  Cupcake Queen tried them out herself on several batches and says that they’re very easy to use.  The Michael’s website only shows striped and floral tattoos, but Cupcake Queen was showing off batches with skulls & crossbones and animal print, so my guess is that you’ll have a better selection in store than online.

Thanks for the heads up, Cupcake Queen!

Cupcake Poop by Cupcake Project

Cupcake Poop! (picture courtesy of the Cupcake Project)

I was a little confused when I saw the word “poop” titling a post with a picture of delicious looking crispy cookies.  But I guess everyone has their own terminology for the little bits of batter that end up on the edges of the cupcake pan and get cooked up into tasty crispy treats.

Cupcake Project gives us the scoop on the poop, or rather, how to bake it up on purpose rather than just relying on serendipitous accident:
