Today the Babble blog is featuring cool cupcake toppers from Etsy, and I thought I’d share a few of my favorites with you.  Like the writer on this blog said, cupcake toppers are a fun and easy way to creatively decorate cupcakes if you want some cute cupcakes but don’t necessarily have lots of cupcake-decorating experience.

I really don’t think you can go wrong with chocolate, caramel and pecans.  That’s why I think these cupcakes look so delicious.  The cake is chocolate with a heavy dose of chilled espresso, the filling is a gooey blend of caramel and pecans, and the frosting is a chocolate buttercream.  My mouth is watering just looking at this picture.

These smart and geeky cupcakes were created by Sarah Dhooma, who left the fashion industry to take up cake design! Sarah, who lives in South Africa, writes that cakes “Should not just be easy on the eye,” that they are “a combination of art and taste.”

I’m constantly looking for cupcake ideas that my friends and family would enjoy.  My dad and sister are huge lemon meringue pie fans.  They would pick lemon meringue pie over any other dessert, or my hope is that this used to be the case.  I just came across this lemon meringue cupcake recipe from Broma Bakery.  The inside is a lemon curd, the top is a meringue, just like the pie version.  I plan on making this recipe for my dad and sister in hopes that the cupcake version will be better than the pie!

I Heart Cupcakes made Jello Shot Cupcakes from a cake mix, Jello, and rum (for those of age).  I’ve never been a big fan of the texture of Jello but maybe I’d like Jello in a cupcake.  Our neighborhood holiday party this weekend might be the perfect time to test out this recipe.

Summer is rapidly approaching and staying outside late, playing with neighborhood friends, is one of my fondest memories of childhood summers.  As kids we would catch fireflies and these glowing cupcakes remind me of the firefly’s glow.  I know that Food Snots originally made these cupcakes for Halloween and there a great idea to store away for the fall but I think these cupcakes would be fun to make on a summer night.  Tonic Water and neon food coloring are among the ingredients used to make these cupcake’s frosting glows!

It’s hard to believe that it has already been a year since the Joplin tornado.  Even so, there are still many people who don’t have homes.  Smallcakes Cupcakery in Joplin is trying to do something about that.  They recently came out with the ‘Rebuild Joplin’ cupcake, and part of the profits from this cupcake will go to Rebuild Joplin, an organization dedicated to getting people back in their homes.

You might think that this cupcake is just an ordinary chocolate and vanilla cupcake, but think again.  The owner of this cupcakery explains that the chocolate on bottom and vanilla on top is meant to show that Joplin is coming out of the darkness and into the light.  Very cool cupcake and a wonderful cause!

With all the birthdays and special occasions at this time of year, I am forever searching for simple ways to make cupcakes more unique. If someone were to ask me to split one of these banana split cupcakes with them, I would probably have to decline, because I would want the whole thing to myself! The combination of bananas, maraschino cherries, marshmallow creme, chocolate, and vanilla frosting sounds absolutely delicious!  Be sure and check out the recipe on the TLC website.

I’m not sure how I feel about the idea of Tomato Soup Cupcakes, but I might try it if enough of you dare me to. Apparently the secret tomato soup ingredient–okay well, it’s not much of a secret ’cause it’s in the title, but anyway–adds a lot of moisture to the cupcake.

The rest of the ingredients in the recipe are fairly standard, though they do say you can replace the spices with ground pepper. Okay, the curiousity is killing me–I think I will try it. We did have a sale on tomato soup recently.

In anticipation of summer, here is a sand castle cupcake that I thought was really cute.  You could do all kinds of things with this.  You could even have a contest to see who can come up with the most creative sand castle cupcake (a much cooler and cleaner alternative to actually getting in the sand, right?).

This display uses finely crushed Nilla Wafers for the sand, graham crackers for the drawbridge, black licorice for the chains, and Teddy Grahams for the people.

I am daily amazed by the works of art I see on Etsy.  Today I found the sweetest clocks I have ever seen! They are made by All Things Cupcake sponsor,  AngelHeartDesigns and they are only $38 each. Love, love, love!  And check out the rest of her shop for other adorable works of art!

It’s definitely the time of year to get outside and enjoy the nice days before they get too hot.  At my house, we are having lots of fun decorating the sidewalks with sidewalk chalk.  I just came across this cupcake-shaped chalk on Etsy.  I think these would even make great party favors for a girl’s summer birthday party.

Well it doesn’t get much cuter than giant panda cupcakes. (The pandas are giant, not the cupcakes.) But don’t eat them–they’re endangered!
