A Cool Summer Treat

Posted by on Monday, June 25th, 2012

Are you looking for a way to stay cool this 4th of July?  These cupcakes might not actually be cold, but they would be a great addition to your holiday festivities.  The recipe uses three colors of cake batter and frosting, and sugar crystals give the snow cone cupcake its “icy” appearance.

Are you in need of a fun summer baking project for your kiddos?  Or maybe your child is just dying to get involved making their next birthday cupcakes?  Check out these kids’ custom cupcakes that one Mama let her daughter decorate for her classmates.  Your kids can use food coloring markers to make decorations of their choice on white fondant.  This would be a relatively mess-free way to get your kids involved in the baking process.

Cupcake Fabric

Posted by on Friday, June 22nd, 2012

I have a confession to make- I am a craftaholic!  I love to try new crafts every few months and my most recent endeavor has been sewing.  So far I have made several bags, dresses and beanbags.   It is so much fun to start with a flat piece of fabric and turn it into something new.  So for all you cupcake fans out there who are also sewers like me, I found some great fabric that marry those two loves from Fabric.com.  FYI- I have also found cupcake fabric at  Joanne’s, Hobby Lobby and even my local Walmart.

The Cupcake Tank

Posted by on Thursday, June 14th, 2012

This cupcake tank is pretty sweet.  Today it made its debut in the Pentagon’s courtyard as people gathered to celebrate the Army’s 237th birthday.

Want to know the stats? The tank weighed 2,500 pounds and was made from 5,000 camouflaged cupcakes from Georgetown Cupcakes.  If you think that’s pretty cool, then wait until you hear this: it was also outfitted with an air cannon which fired a cupcake onto the Pentagon’s Courtyard.

Want to know another interesting statistic on this tank? The 5,000 cupcakes were covered in a whopping 200 pounds of camouflage fondant.  Now THAT is a lot of fondant!

King of the Grill Cupcakes

Posted by on Thursday, June 14th, 2012

In my house I may do most of the cooking but when it comes to grilling, that’s 100% my husband’s job.  I found these totally perfect cupcakes at Wilton.com and I instantly fell in love.  Not only would they be a great Father’s Day cupcake idea, but these would also be great for a 4th of July picnic too.  You could also modify this a bit by adding fondant hotdogs, corn on the cob and other veggies.  They may each take a while to make, but check out the baker reviews for some time-saving tips.

Chocolate Cupcakes with Peanut Butter “Frosting”

Posted by on Wednesday, June 13th, 2012

I think these cupcakes were made for me, not just because I love the classic combination of peanut butter and chocolate.  But  because sometimes I get tired by the time it comes to decorating the cupcakes.  I’ve already made the cupcakes and frosting with a looming sink full of dishes and often I’m crunched for time so I find myself wishing my cupcakes would frost themselves.  Which is why these cupcakes are perfect, these chocolate cupcakes are topped with generous scoop of peanut butter cookie dough.  They sound delicious and don’t have to be decorated perfectly to look good, just scoop on the frosting and you’re cupcakes are done!

Fire Baked Cupcakes

Posted by on Tuesday, June 12th, 2012

Reading CandidCupcakes post about s’more cupcakes got me thinking about the orange grilled cupcakes I blogged last summer.  I started wondering if there were any recipes or ideas on how to bake a cupcake over a campfire.  After looking around I found an Ohio 4-H camp activity lesson plan.  The lesson plan is part of the outdoor cooking session under the cooking with foil portion.  In this session campers learn about cooking with conduction by experimenting with cupcakes.  The directions read like a science experiment where you are supposed to brainstorm and plan your methods first then attempt baking the cupcakes inside fruit bases wrapped in foil.  Similar to the orange grilled cupcakes but instead of a grill you use a bed of coals or the embers of a wood fire.  Any brave camp counselors or parents willing to try grilled cupcakes this summer? Just check out the Ohio 4-H website for the PDF with the directions.

Kale Cupcake

Posted by on Monday, June 11th, 2012

I thought this was an interesting way to get some more of those healthy green veggies into your diet.  Fox News ranked it as one of the most wild and wacky cupcakes on the web.

Wondering what that green stuff is on top?  That’s dried, crushed kale.  From the picture, I could have been fooled into thinking those were sprinkles.  I don’t think these look half-bad.

A Camping Treat

Posted by on Sunday, June 10th, 2012

This weekend my little family of three went on its first camping trip.  S’mores are a very important part of camping, if you ask me.  Of course, these cupcakes, adapted from a Martha Stewart recipe, aren’t really possible to make when you’re out in the woods, but you could take a batch with you or have a post-camping cupcake party.  Be sure to check out other ideas for s’mores cupcakes in our archives (some of my favorites are right here).
