From the authors of the famously popular Hello, Cupcake! comes What’s New Cupcake? I just received this newest recipe book last week and it is amazing!

Here’s what Amazon.com had to say about this yummy book:
The endlessly imaginative duo who turned cupcaking into a national pastime is back, with utterly new, eye-popping creations anyone can make. Create a race-car cupcake, a robot cupcake, or ravishing jewelry cupcakes for a birthday party. Surprise the family with Chinese takeout dinner cupcakes on April Fool’s or serve up a goofy chocolate moose. Captivate Mom with a bouquet of long-stemmed rose cupcakes and build sand castle cupcakes with the kids. All you need are candies from the corner store and cake mix and canned frosting.
Be on the lookout for my What’s New Cupcake? review and recipe book giveaway here on ATC at the end of this month. You might be the winner of one of these books!

Where would you place your tattoo??
We have received some really cool images this week of cupcake tattoos. It got me thinking where I would put my cupcake tattoo if I wasn’t such a wimp when it comes to burning needles! Also I have a huge tendency to change my mind, so anything that cannot be altered or modified five minutes later, is just no good. But if I was to have one, where would it go? I do like the ankle area, or perhaps on my tummy just along my pant line. Hmm, today it would definitely be chocolate with triple choc chip.
So where would you place yours – hypothetically of course! I haven’t seen any head cupcake tattoos yet, but Jessica wins the shoulder one (well it is in the vicinity of her shoulder) with this gorgeous cupcake nestled under her arm. I love the little red bow.

And no one has a knee one yet – if you do send it in. However one of our readers did send in this little cherry dotted one on her foot. A big hello to the Skull & Rose Gallery in Clintonville, Ohio, where these were done!

I Am Baker is extremely talented when it comes to decorating all things sweet. I came across these flower cupcakes and loved them. They are frosted to look like flowers then topped with a royal icing flower which includes initials in the leaf. Her website includes tons of other unique cupcake and impressive dessert displays.

I think one of my favorite dessert displays is this table and it's actually not the cupcakes that I like!

It's the inside that I really love, frosting flowers!

Inc. Magazine just published a slideshow featuring the 16 best industries for starting a business right now. And among home health care and green technologies, there sits our good friend the cupcake! According to Inc., bakeries and pastry shops are growing at a rate of 5% per year! It seems that people are looking for affordable indulgences these days, and of course, cupcakes satisfy this craving for simple luxury! Cupcakes, and other small treats, are also easy to make locally, from local ingredients, by local people. Consumers are looking to support just this sort of business! Is today the day to open up your own cupcake shop?

ATC reader Keli sent us this photo and email…
As a fan of cupcakes and epidermal artistry I have finally decided to combine my love of the two! It took a few months of scouting ideas (a lot from your site) and a few weeks of finding the perfect color combos, but it was all worth it. I decided to proudly display on my forearm for all the world to see. Thanks for all you do to promote the utter awesomeness of the oh so humble cupcake!
Thank you so much for sharing! It’s adorable! ;)

That’s right, this month the baker’s battlefield will be set. Icing bags will be loaded and beaters revved as the Food Network launches its new prime time series ‘Cupcake Wars’. The first episode of this premier series will be aired on June the 15th at 9pm ET/PT when four of the country’s top bakers will go head to head, but it is not until the Tuesday 27th July when our very own sponsor Stefanie Gaxiola of Red Velvet Stefanie will get to show off her amazing stuff.
Each episode will feature a different theme, from a SeaWorld Birthday Bash in Round 1 to the Film Festival Face Off, in which Stefanie will need to beat her opponents Arleen Scavore of Sweet Arleens, Zoey Devail of Bee Sweet Bakery and Johnny Mangamiotis of Mr Cupcakes to feature her cupcakes at a film festival. Stefanie’s episode will air at 10pm on Tuesday the 27th of July, so lets cheer her on! You can read more about the all upcoming shows and contestants on The Futon Critic.

All of us here at ATC will be right behind Stefanie, who could see herself into the elimination rounds if she wins. The overall prize for the best cupcake baker is $10,000 and the opportunity to showcase their cupcakes at the winning gig!

Salt and caramel combined together are really popular right now which is most likely why Heather from Sprinkle Bakes paired the two to created Triple Salted Caramel Cupcakes. These are basic buttermilk cupcakes filled with a salted caramel filling and topped with salted caramel buttercream frosting. I think I am most impressed by the salted caramel rounds sprinkled with large crystal sugar that top the cupcakes which give the cupcakes a more sophisticated look.

These spectacular modern art pieces are in fact totally edible cupcakes. ATC reader Nicola make them for the diner she works at in Watertown, MA. Nicola says that they’re just your usual chocolate and vanilla cupcakes with buttercream frosting, with the secret ingredients being food coloring and Nicola’s expert frosting skills. “To make the spikes I use round tips and just pull away while loosening my grip”, says Nicola.
Nicola wrote to us with a puzzling quandary concerning her amazing technicolor cupcakes:
Everyone that comes into the store is amazed by the cupcakes, but I get asked a dozen times a day if they’re real! How can I make my cupcakes look more “real” and edible? I also get told that they are too pretty to eat. Am I supposed to make them uglier? Any suggestions??
I say that she keeps them just the way they are – I think they look great. Besides putting up some “yes, they’re real!” signage, the only thing I can think of to do is to get friends and regulars to become “cupcake models”. It shouldn’t be too hard to get some folks to eat those awesome-looking cupcakes in a public place, right?

It seems that everyone is talking about nothing else but the big finale of Lost, after 6 seasons it all came to an end last week. But there is little agreement on whether the ending was all it could have been. But for one cupcake baker it was!
Bonnie hosted her own Lost Party and got ultra creative in the kitchen after being inspired by MSNBC.com’s article on how to throw the “ultimate Lost finale party”. Letting her imagination run wild, she made a series of funky cupcakes to serve alongside her ‘Lost’ branded soda, chips and chocolate.
She wishes she had more time to create more of the iconic figures from the show, but at least she made Vincent. Who incidentally is still a ‘survivor’ as she has not been able to bring herself to eat him.
As to the finale? Bonnie give it a resounding thumbs up and I give her thumbs up on these awesome cupcakes!

We recently received this fun photograph from an ATC fan.
Here’s what she had to say:
Even as an adult I have a major sweet tooth and there are few things I like more than cupcakes! I love to bake and one day I will open my own bakery, where I have always envisioned having cupcakes as our main feature. One day I imagined a room like Willie Wonka where the cupcakes could grow like vines. I have been wanting this tattoo for awhile now so I just went for it! I got it done in Fayetteville, NC by Nathan at Tattoo World. Now I can’t wait to go to the beach and show it off!
Thank you for sharing! It looks fantastic! Have fun at the beach, and be sure to bring some cupcakes along!

Gnawing at your nails has never been so tasty!
Ditsy Daisies, our ATC sponsor has just alerted us to this adorable new cupcake manicure kit from Cupcakes and Cartwheels. Below is the apple green encased cupcake with a vanilla and strawberry topping, complete with cherry! But if you prefer your cupcake to be chocolate and strawberry or vanilla and chocolate, don’t despair as Ditsy Daisies provide three to choose from!

However, the best thing about these beautiful little cupcake cases, is that within their pastel lined interior they have everything to keep your nails in pristine condition. All cupcakes contain a pair of nail clippers, nail file, tweezers, cuticle pusher and scissors, perfect to keep in your handbag for any and every nail emergency.

Would you quit your day-job to start a cupcake business? According to a CNN report, that is what the founders of Curbside Cupcakes did. The two co-owners each had jobs but one day realized they wanted cupcakes and they wanted the cupcakes to come to them. Using that idea, they started with a truck of 300 cupcakes and have expanded to over 1300 cupcakes. Curbside Cupcake fans find the truck’s location through their website or social networking sites, such as facebook or twitter. Those living in or visiting Washington, DC can look for the cupcake truck and “enjoy cupcake bliss right at their door.”
