ATC Reader Nancy just sent us these photos and this email…

I just discovered your fabulous site and have spent the last several hours catching up on posts and emailing them to friends and family like crazy.  I LOVE cupcakes.  Not sure if you post stuff like this regularly, but I thought I would pass along pictures of my wedding cupcake stand, especially as it was an April wedding and had a “cherry blossom” color scheme.  They were from Tracy’s Divine Desserts in Milwaukee, WI. So happy I found this blog!

Thank you for sharing your wedding cupcakes with us Nancy. They are beautiful!

Most Adorable Tea Cup Cakes

Posted by on Sunday, February 15th, 2009

2097_craft_teaups_lAfter reading an article on the origin of cupcakes detailing how cupcakes were small cakes often baked in tea cups to use up cake batter, the Martha Stewart Craft site  posts this as craft of the day! You do not even have to be a pastry chef  to get in on this. The pattern and instructions are on her website and can easily be adjusted to design awesome tea cup cakes. Felting is actually quite simple to do and allows your creative, whimsical side to flourish.  If anyone does make this craft design inspired by Betz White,  I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see your work! I am thinking we should have an online funky woolen sweater drive as well.  Have fun, I know I will!  Thanks Martha.

One of my co-workers made mini red velvet cupcakes yesterday for her class, so I decided to take advantage of this cupcake opportunity and take some photos for you all. She used Paula Deen’s recipe but swapped in another recipe for the cream cheese frosting. The cakes were delicious little bites; thanks Marina for sharing them with the staff!

As previously blogged here, Tiffany & Co. has the sweetest little cupcake charm in the world. Obama and Lincoln Commemorated in Cupcakes

Posted by on Friday, February 13th, 2009

(via Trend News)

Flour, frosting and fondant are the ingredients artist and baker Zilly Rosen will use to create portraits of US presidents Abraham Lincoln and Barack Obama, dpa reported.

Washington’s National Portrait Gallery and the Smithsonian American Art Museum are co-hosting their fourth annual Presidential Family Fun Day on Saturday.

The centrepiece of the event will be Rosen’s portraits, using 5,000 cupcakes arranged to look from above like Lincoln (1861-65), remembered as the Great Emancipator, and Obama, who took office last month as the first African-American president.

“This presidential portrait is not only distinguished but delicious,” the National Portrait Gallery touted.

Unlike the paintings in the galleries of the two museums, the cupcake portraits will have a very short shelf life. After staying on display for the afternoon, the artwork will be deconstructed by the children in attendance.

The free, family-oriented event, an observance ahead of Monday’s Presidents’ Day, will also include fife-and-drum music, singing, storytelling and historical impersonators including Lincoln and other presidents.

Thursday was the 200th birthday of Lincoln, who ordered the emancipation of slaves in 1863 and was assassinated in April 1865, just days after achieving victory in the American Civil War.

The cupcake artwork will be titled A New Birth of Freedom, borrowing a phrase from one of Lincoln’s most famous speeches.

This installation was also streamed live via webcast!

The most adorable Cupcake Wrapper I have seen …

Posted by on Friday, February 13th, 2009

Being here in below 40 degree F temperatures for a solid 2 months with only about 6 days a month bringing glorious sunshine, I got pretty stoked when these came  into my Cupcakery. Tomorrow being Valentines Day I should be posting a Valentine, and I will. ;o)

These wrappers are gorgeous for DIY cupcakers. We even carry the chocolate coated, candy sunflower seeds to make the centre of your flower!

I would have liked to see a brown liner on this cupcake but alas … I digress. sunflower-wrap

You can check these out at my Cupcakery Shop because I just have to share <3

Dark chocolate vegan cupcakes

Posted by on Friday, February 13th, 2009

ATC Reader Heather sent us this email and photo of her Dark chocolate vegan cupcakes…

I made these vegan cupcakes on Friday because I was having a dinner party and one of the guests is lactose-intolerant. I got the recipe on RecipeZaar and they were delicious. No one could tell that they weren’t just regular cupcakes, and they came out very professional-looking as well, especially with the raspberries. I had never made anything vegan before so I was a little nervous, but they were so good and cute, I just loved them!

Thanks for sharing your cupcakes with us Heather. They look very delicious!
