Funky new Cupcake Shoes

Posted by on Tuesday, October 19th, 2010

If you are after a new pair of super soft and comfortable shoes that are as unique and individual as you are then these are the shoes for you!

Not only are these Cupcake High Top Keds fun and funky, but you can make all the adjustments you want to personalize them before you buy them.  Here you will see that I have selected red lace for mine!

You can also change the lining color, upper binding color, toe cap design, eyelet color, tongue binding color and stitching colors!  There is also an option to choose between black and white upper and lower midsoles and the toe bumper.  All of which means you can have really cool cupcake shoes that are unique and funky.

Best part though is the price, they are only $65 from Zazzle (this link takes you to their WIDE variety of cupcake shoes! There are heaps to choose from!).

Halloween Cupcake Skewers

Posted by on Monday, October 18th, 2010

Pizzazzerie recently had a Cupcake Skewer Contest, the deadline for which has since past, but designs are still relevant to the Halloween season. The winning cupcake skewers were Black Magic Cupcakes, created by Sweet Cheeks Tasty Treats.

While she did not win the contest, The Decorated Cookie still created bright, festive Halloween cupcakes that impressed me!  Below are The Decorated Cookie’s instructions for creating Halloween cupcake skewers but for

additional directions, Pizzazzerie has a How to Make Cupcake Skewers post.

Halloween Parade Cupcake Wrappers

Posted by on Sunday, October 17th, 2010

I find the images of Belle and Boo to be absolutely adorable.  One of my favorites is the Happy Halloween print where Boo is inside a Jack-O-Lantern and Belle is dressed up like a cat.  I was excited when I came across these Halloween Parade Cupcake Wrappers available on their Etsy site. Ten decorative wrappers, which are not meant to be baked in, come in a pack for $9.50.  Belle and Boo also sells matching invitations.

Decapitated head cupcakes anyone?

Decapitated Head Cupcake by PepsiNZ

I think I need to explain myself!

Well I was cruising Flickr today when I stumbled upon this rather gross cupcake by PepsiNZ.  Actually it is a very funny mix of really awful and really cute, the face is adorable!  But it would make the most awesome Halloween cupcake, especially that is if you have older boys!

She is quite talented with her cupcake creations, but before you race off and check out her photostream, be warned it is not all G rated!

Cupcake Art in Cupcake Stores

Posted by on Friday, October 15th, 2010

The thing I love about art is there is no right and wrong, anything and everything can be explored and the emotions it provokes in a viewer are as unique and individual about the art itself.  Even the cupcake is becoming quite a feature in paintings and drawings, for example who doesn’t know about the very popular CakeSpy who has a huge following of fans.

It seems that Cupcake stores and Bakeries are starting to catch on, adding an ever changing kaleidoscope of color to otherwise plain walls.  In addition, it gives patrons something to look at while they wait, and lets face it, if you have waited in a 15 minute queue for your cupcake you deserve a bit of eye candy along with your cupcake!

Above we feature the talented Jonathan Arras who is an artist who has created a number of colorful pieces of art which he is currently showing at Common Ground Cupcakes for the next month.  Some of his art features cupcakes such as the image above titled ‘Two Animals in Search of A Cupcake” but all are bright and colorful and perfect for a cupcake store.  His art is on sale in the store which is located in Renton WA or you can see his work on his website, Spirals In Love.

What do you think?  Do you want to see more art in cupcake stores, or is the cupcake counter your only focus?

Momiji Cupcake Dolls

Posted by on Thursday, October 14th, 2010

Momiji dolls are adorable little message dolls that are categorized into little collections.  Each doll has a cut out hole in the bottom and a card inside the hole for writing a little personalized note.  While looking around on the Momiji site I noticed that they have a few fun cupcake related items.  There are two Momiji dolls that have cupcakes on them.  Each of the dolls are pixies, one is from the vintage collection and the other from the random collection.  Once is blond haired and wearing a pink dress while holding a yellow cupcake while the other has a cherry theme. Cupcakes everywhere!

Posted by on Wednesday, October 13th, 2010

Cupcakes are fast becoming more than just a tasty little dessert or afternoon treat but a key trend in design and decor.  More and more we are seeing more people adorn themselves with a super cute cupcake tattoo, wear a cupcake apron, have funky cupcake shoes, and dress their bed in cupcake covered sheets and blankets, but where will it end?  Personally I have no idea, I think we are still just on the edge of the cupcake mountain, and it appears that Angel Heart Designs agrees with me with her latest creation – cupcake drawer pulls.

But there is an interesting story behind these pulls, as they actually were originally created as a magnet that Angel Heart Designs, ATC Sponsor used to send to customers as a little thank you gift.  One customer however decided that her fridge was not the perfect place for it and glued it instead to a cabinet door handle.

It looked so good, that she requested more and the range of cupcake door pulls in a range of colors, flavors and custom designs was born!

So today cupcake door pulls tomorrow…

Halloween Silicone Cupcake Case

Posted by on Wednesday, October 13th, 2010

Organize.com offers a selection of cupcake baking items for Halloween they have sprinkles, stencils, liners and more.  One item that I like is the set of 12 silicone cupcake molds with halloween designs.  With cute spiderwebs, bats, witches, ghosts, cats, and caldrons, the $20.99 set is a nice alternative to paper liners.

*Tip: if you buy these, bake in them once or twice before Halloween.  This will ensure the cupcakes come out of the molds easily.  When I bought my molds I didn’t realize how important this was!

Meatloaf Cupcakes by the Meatloaf Bakery

Posted by on Monday, October 11th, 2010

Omega-3 Cupcake by The Meatloaf Bakery

Meatloaf cupcakes aren’t just for April Fool’s Day anymore. Chicago’s Meatloaf Bakery serves them up every day of the week, along with bite-sized loafies (so cute!) and full-sized meatloaves. Cynthia, aka The Chief Mealoaf Maker, had been experimenting in meatloaf for years when she asked herself the question, “Who said meatloaf always had to be baked as a‚ well, as a loaf?” At that point, she found herself free to make her meatloaves are pretty as she wanted them to be.   And really, what’s better looking than a cupcake?

Do you love Cupcake Wars? Ace of Cakes?

Posted by on Monday, October 11th, 2010

If you answered yes, then I have to inform you, that David Letterman disagrees with you, but don’t worry, “he is just nuts”.

Well that is what David Letterman said on air this Friday after he blasted Rachael Ray with a barrage of complaints about the number and type of cupcake shows on the air at the moment.  What Rachael had to do with these cupcake shows is not clear but I am guessing the link may be that there are a lot of cupcake shows at the moment, and Rachael also has a lot of her own shows.  Forgive me I might be wrong, but it was the only thing I could see that could possibly give reason for David to direct his annoyance at Rachael.

Before Rachael even got out to stage David said “You realize there’s a billion people in the world starving every day, and there’s a group of assholes having fights over cupcakes. They’re fighting over cupcakes! … Does that seem right to you?”

I guess we can take from this that David Letterman doesn’t like cupcake shows, but surely censorship is not the answer to the worldwide hunger problem?

All I can say is I fully respect how Rachael handled herself and as Letterman himself says she “had every reason to be alarmed”, he continues “I’m so sorry”.

    Vintage Cupcake Cookie Jar

Posted by on Sunday, October 10th, 2010

Sometimes I think to myself, ‘Where did my cupcake obsession start?’ I think it came from a vintage cupcake cookie jar that my friend got for another friend, and I said to myself, ‘I want one!” One day soon after my friend and I went to a few antique stores in search for some goods. And I found the best one ever! I found my very own vintage cupcake cookie jar. I couldn’t wait until I got my own place to display this amazing cookie jar. This was a few years ago and I am now knee deep in cupcakes (and branded with a cupcake tattoo)  and have an amazing piece in my kitchen, which EVERYONE who walks in my kitchen loves.

I found a similar cupcake cookie jar on etsy to share with all of you.

    The Amazing Twinkie Chan!

I came across Twinkie Chan’s delicious wares when I wrote the post about the cupcake goodies to be found at the Japan LA Pop Culture Shop.  Twinkie Chan is the creative genius behind the Yummy You! line of knitted/wearable foodstuffs; the knitted cupcake scarf featured in the Japan LA post is one of her creations.

I tracked Twinkie Chan across the internet to her ridiculously cute website, and though we’re separated by several hundred miles , secured an interview with her via email. The results of our electronic Q&A session are below.

    Maple Cupcakes from Baked Explorations

Posted by on Saturday, October 9th, 2010

Baked: New Frontiers in Baking is one of my favorite cookbooks and I loved visiting the Charleston location last summer.  I was really excited when I read on design*sponge that a second book had hit bookshelves.  Baked Explorations is said to have over 80 amazing recipes (including sections on Breakfast, Cakes and Cupcakes, Pies and Tarts, Brownies and Bars, Cookies, Confections and Chocolates, and Drinks), 40 color photos, various tips, tricks and more!

The Kitchn not only reviewed the new book but also blogged about the Maple Cupcake recipe found in the book. Now that the cooler fall weather has finally arrived here in North Carolina it’s the perfect time to try the recipe, found below!  Read the rest of this entry »
