I grew up watching the My Little Pony: The Movie from 1986!  Even though the look of the little ponies has changed a lot over the years I still thought this youtube video that my friend shared with me was cute.  The video is Pinkie Pie’s cupcake song where Pinkie Pie teaches Applebloom how to make cupcakes! While I wouldn’t attempt making the cupcakes that the ponies sing about, it is still a fun way to introduce kids to baking.

Today my daughter had money in her pocket to burn and really wanted to buy something for herself. She loves to do craft projects, so we headed to our local AC Moore and here is what she chose to buy.
Although it is a bit hard to see in this photo, this is Perler Beads Cupcake and Butterfly Fused Bead Kit. For those of you who don’t know what Perler beads are, you simply fill the cupcake shaped pegboard with the beads, iron it and voila! You have a lovely cupcake to make into a magnet or pin.  This set was $7.99 at AC Moore and you can also find in on Amazon. 

 And here are the cupcakes my daughter and I made!  We had so much fun! 

Oh Mylanta are these impressive! I just found these Lego Cupcakes on Cupcakes by Madelaine’s Flickr photostream. Unbelievable! I hope she’s charging an arm and a leg for these! You can also find more great cupcakes at Madelaine’s website.

Another week, another trip to Target.  And another cupcake hunt too!  This week I found this adorable felt cupcake Easter basket for only $2.50.  I also discovered that there is a small version to the large cupcake bucket I posted last week.   The large is $8 and the small one is only $5. It’s going to be a cupcake filled Easter at my house this year!

Remember those cupcake shaped Easter eggs from Walmart that we shared with you?  Well Target has Easter eggs that are decorated to look like cupcakes!  I really like these eggs because they still have the traditional egg shape but are fun colors!

Target had some other cupcake products worth sharing like this cute cupcake pillow with a matching four piece toddler bed set.  The pillow costs $14.99 and is fun even without the matching bedding!

If you have children, then you have crayon scraps. You know, teeny tiny crayon stubs that no one colors with anymore. In our house, sometimes these get eaten by the dog, but if we prevent that from happening, these little crayon scraps pile up in the bottom of the crayon box.

So, what do you do with old crayons? Why, you make cupcakes of course! My kids will happily color with their new “crayon cupcakes,” giving new life to old stubs.

Here’s how:

1. Sort different colors, or color groups, into separate clean soup cans.
2. Heat a saucepan of water on the stove.
3. Gently drop soup cans into the water. Watch closely as the crayons in your can(s) melt.
4. In the meantime, line your muffin pan with cupcake wrappers.
5. Carefully pour your colored wax into the cupcake wrappers. You can create cupcakes of solid colors, or layer different colors into each cupcake.
6. Allow “cupcakes” to harden in pan. There’s no need to bake anything!

Romp is a great website for children’s toys, accessories, and room decor.  They have a set of four plush cupcakes for $36.00 that are prefect for toy kitchens.  There is also an it’s a snap headband that comes with two snaps, a cupcake and a puppy for $20.00.

Still looking for the perfect Valentine’s Day gift? Check out this ceramic cupcake night light from Angel Heart Designs. I remember the Legos I grew up with were the basic primary colors and we mostly built towers and cars.  The Legos I had definitely were not as exciting as this creative cakes set that is available for $24.99.  I love that this set gets girls more involved in playing with Legos, allowing them to make cakes or cupcakes and the lid doubles as a serving tray!

I shiver the think of all the uses I could get out of a cupcake ottoman. You can sit on it, rest your feet on it, store treasures in it, let the kids play with it–what a fantastic addition to your cupcake home decor! I found these at Meijer for $49.99 each. These were the only two colors I found, but there weren’t many left when I got there, so your Meijer might have more options!

I was recently wandering around my local Meijer when I discovered that Wilton has a new (and very exciting) line of kids’ cupcake decorating fun. If you’ve got a little baker (or decorator) in your life, you should definitely check this out. Or, even if you don’t, you still might want to check it out.

My son (3) claims that Elmo is drastically underrepresented in the cupcake world. But I just found this decorating idea at This Mommy Loves, complete with instructions. She recommends red Wilton cupcake wrappers, but I’ve also seen Elmo cupcake wrappers at my local craft store, so you might want to look for those too!

If you have a young one in your family, odds are you have visited Build a Bear for them to make a furry new friend.  But here’s a great reason to go back and get something for yourself! 

This new “I Heart Cupcakes Confetti Cupcake Bear” is shown with all these optional accessories for $45 but you can buy just the bear for $20.  They have several other cupcake birthday animals and this adorable animal carrier.  I wonder if I might get strange glances walking around the mall wearing this cupcake carrier with a cupcake bear in it?

Growing up in Connecticut I remember it was always fun to visit the Stamford Connecticut mall.  The mall had crazy escalators that seemed to float in mid air as they transversed from one level to another across the center of the mall.  The mall had an A&W All American Food which as kids seemed like a special treat.  Most importantly, located inside the mall was an FAO Schwarz toy store.   As a kid, it was hard to beat a toy store, especially one as great as FAO Schwarz, which is now one of the oldest operating stores in the US.

The FAO Schwarz store is long since gone from the Stamford Mall but the New York City and online stores are still open.  I was looking around the online store and was excited to find some awesome cupcake items.  My top favorite is the FAO Exclusive Pinkalicious 12.5 inch cupcake backpack!  Although it’s small the $14.99 backpack is really cute and I know little girls would love the backpack shaped like a cupcake after having had a heart shaped backpack when I was little.
