It’s a Girl!

Posted by on Tuesday, July 26th, 2011

What a great idea! Gender revealing cupcake filling! And what pregnant woman isn’t in the mood for a cupcake? Amanda Johnson of Fargo went to her ultrasound like any other expecting woman, but instead of listening to the news directly, she asked the technician to write the baby’s sex on a piece of paper, which she then delivered to her … baker! Amanda then invited her friends and family over for a cupcake party. Everyone simultaneously took bites of their cupcakes, not knowing what color the filling would be, and then people started squealing, mouths full of pink frosting. It’s a girl!

Cupcake by Charise Mericle Harper

Posted by on Tuesday, July 26th, 2011

For my birthday I was given Cupcake by Charise Mericle Harper.  The cute children’s story is about a sad plain vanilla cupcake who with the help of a candle searches for a topping that will make him be as fancy as all his brother and sister cupcakes.  The end of the book includes a recipe for Deliciously Plain Vanilla Cupcakes and Butter Cream Frosting. The book which is published by Disney and Hyperion Books is available on several websites including Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Target with prices ranging from $8.24 to $13.49.

Cupcake Goldfish

Posted by on Thursday, July 14th, 2011

Check out my kids’ newest favorite snack!

I recently found this new flavor at Target and was happy to try them for all our loyal cupcake lovers out there.  I was a little bit skeptical though, wondering if Pepperidge Farm had mixed their regular cheese Goldfish flavor with cupcake flavor but I was happy to be wrong.   Although they don’t taste quite like a cupcake, they do taste like very sweet graham crackers and we have found them very addicting.  They also have a new chocolate flavor Goldfish which taste like little chocolate graham crackers and a S’mores mix.  It has marshmallow, chocolate and graham cracker Goldfish all in one bag.    Yummy!

DSigned Sharpay Cupcake Tee

Posted by on Thursday, July 14th, 2011

Disney’s DSigned has created a girls line called The Sharpay Collection.  Available at Target the line was created to go along with the movie, Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure which came out on Blue Ray and DVD back in April.  The movie is a spin off from Disney’s High School Musical series, staring Ashley Tisdale who plays Sharpay.  Target’s short sleeve, yellow cupcake graphic tee shirt is only $9.99 and comes in sizes extra small though extra large.

Hippie Cupcakes

Posted by on Thursday, June 30th, 2011

Okay, I admit it — I’m kind of a hippie, and I’m kind of raising a hippie daughter, which is why I am so inspired by these “tie-dyed” (air-brushed) cupcakes from Simply Sweets!

Says Who?

Posted by on Tuesday, June 21st, 2011

From Pinkalicious to Strawberry Shortcake, there seems to be a domination of cupcake images with pink and with girls.  On June 21, you can even tune in to season two of Canada’s “The Cupcake Girls.”

But says who?

Jackson loves cupcakes!

I have certainly never known a boy to turn up his nose at a cupcake and say, “Ew!  That’s for girls!”  See, for example, my proof of the same:  a photograph of Jackson eating one of my homemade cupcakes.

According to Jackson’s mother, when asked for his opinion on the matter, Jackson definitely had one, and it went something like this:

Nancy:  Do boys like cupcakes more than girls?

Jackson:  Boys.

Nancy:  Why?

Jackson:  I think some girls might be allergic to them.

So there you have it from the expert!

Cupcake Collector Items from Disney

Posted by on Monday, June 13th, 2011

Are you a collector of cupcake items?  Going to a cupcake-themed birthday party and looking for the perfect gift? Disney has just come out with some really cute cupcake-shaped vinylmations, designed by Susan Foy.  There are six in the collection, but you can view the Minnie cupcake, Tinker Bell cupcake, and Marie cupcake online. These vinyl figures are all 3 inches tall and each one includes detachable frosting which reveals each character’s face when removed.  Another cool feature is that the arms and head can be moved into different poses.

Newly released in May, the Princess Cupcakes kit includes cute cupcake liners and reusable crown wrappers, a book featuring recipes (including one for “Pink Velvet”), and decorating tips. It was only $16 at Barnes & Noble, and I know she’s going to love it. (Okay, so I’m a little excited as well!)

Felt Cupcakes

Posted by on Saturday, June 11th, 2011

This felt cupcake idea would be a simple and relatively cheap (not to mention mess-free) way to keep your young kids occupied over the summer, especially on a long road-trip.  All you need is some different colors of felt and a pair of scissors.  If you are a tad-bit artistically challenged like me, then you can download a free template here for all the pieces (cupcakes, liners, and frosting). Cupcakes Help Sick Kids

Posted by on Saturday, June 4th, 2011

It seems that we are always hearing about ways we can give of our time and resources to help others, and it shouldn’t come as a surprise to cupcake enthusiasts that cupcakes can also play a role.

This past Tuesday, singer Sheryl Crow used cupcakes to bring some cheer to sick kids at St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis, TN.  The popular singer visited the hospital as a part of the Music Gives to St. Jude Kids initiative, which aims to fight childhood cancer and disease through raising funds and awareness.  Crow participated by making cupcakes with children at the hospital.

Cupcake Pottery

Posted by on Monday, May 23rd, 2011

So while I was wandering around Sanford, Maine, in search of All Things Cupcake, I found the coolest pottery studio ever! Get Fired Up is a family-friendly, do-it-yourself pottery studio. First, you choose from a wide variety of pottery pieces, which can cost as little as $3. Then, for a fee of only $5, you get a cool table, clean tools, paints, expert advice, and the firing of your artwork. Then, you return to find your piece on display and you can pick it up! It’s so impressive. My daughter and I have a date to return and make ourselves some clay cupcakes! I’m planning on making myself a nice chocolate cupcake with peanut butter frosting, but her’s will no doubt be purple.

Family Fun Cupcakes

Posted by on Thursday, May 19th, 2011

Have you looked at Disney’s Family Fun website recently? They have some seriously awesome cupcake ideas!  Two of my favorites are the Night Owls, pictured above, which are perfect for the up coming graduation season.  I love the big owl sitting on a branch of pretzels and the little baby owls surrounding. My second favorite is the Sweet Shop cupcakes, which look like milk shakes, ice cream sundaes, and cupcakes topped with swirl lollipops! There are so many more great cupcake ideas on the website, take a look and I am sure you will find an idea for your next cupcake requiring event!

Hello Kitty Cupcakes

Posted by on Sunday, May 15th, 2011

Almost everyone loves Hello Kitty, so today I thought I’d display a great Hello Kitty Cupcake set of nine cupcakes from Ipoet on Flickr.  The most stunning piece is the fondant modelling of the family, but if you look in the foreground of the image you can see pillow like hello kitty heads.  They look great and would not be too difficult to create.

Cupcakes for Kiddos

Posted by on Saturday, April 30th, 2011

Can you imagine a world where the sale of a single cupcake buys thirteen meals for children in Uganda? We’re living in it.

Cupcakes for Kiddos was started by 10-year-old twins, Ella and Liliana, from Lawrence, Kansas. If you live in Lawrence, you can place an order for some homebaked cupcakes, and they will be hand-delivered to your door. If you don’t live in Lawrence, you can still make a donation, and if you wish, cupcakes will be delivered on your behalf to a deserving individual. All the proceeds go to Amazima Ministries.

For more information, or to order some cupcakes, email cupcakesforkiddos (at) gmail (dot) com by Tuesday, May 3rd.
