If you answered yes, then I have to inform you, that David Letterman disagrees with you, but don’t worry, “he is just nuts”.
Well that is what David Letterman said on air this Friday after he blasted Rachael Ray with a barrage of complaints about the number and type of cupcake shows on the air at the moment. What Rachael had to do with these cupcake shows is not clear but I am guessing the link may be that there are a lot of cupcake shows at the moment, and Rachael also has a lot of her own shows. Forgive me I might be wrong, but it was the only thing I could see that could possibly give reason for David to direct his annoyance at Rachael.
Before Rachael even got out to stage David said “You realize there’s a billion people in the world starving every day, and there’s a group of assholes having fights over cupcakes. They’re fighting over cupcakes! … Does that seem right to you?”
I guess we can take from this that David Letterman doesn’t like cupcake shows, but surely censorship is not the answer to the worldwide hunger problem?
All I can say is I fully respect how Rachael handled herself and as Letterman himself says she “had every reason to be alarmed”, he continues “I’m so sorry”.
The Walking Dead is a new television series based on the comic book series of the same name. In the US, the series will air on AMC, and in the UK, FX. Hence the Fox logo amongst the spooky frosting faces.
It was Fox who ordered the cupcakes from Clares Cupcakes of London, for a press party. The folks at Clares really know how to make a cupcake. I was blown away by the pictures on their website.
They specialize in cupcakes for special events, and I have never seen more tantalizing displays. I wish I’d had them for my wedding! They hand deliver orders to events in the London area. Read the rest of this entry »
There are few things in life that I love more than Glee, Fox’s hit musical comedy. While Glee did win a few Emmys last night, I was disappointed that Lea Michele, who stunningly plays the character of Rachel, did not win. She was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, and I think she should have won, but she is young, and I can root for her for years to come. Yesterday was her 24th birthday. I remember where I spent my 24th birthday, and it certainly wasn’t at the Emmys. But all is well that ends well because guess what she got for her birthday?
Pre-show host Billy Bush presented her with a vegan cupcake in a jar. And though I would be pretty darn excited about such a gift, this red carpet gal pronounced the gift both “ghetto” and “cool.”
Tonight’s episode of Fox’s Masterchef featured a cupcake challenge! But the contestants didn’t know that, at least not at first. These home cooks are not necessarily bakers, but tonight, when they stepped up to their table, each of them found a mystery box full of mystery ingredients.
And when they lifted the boxes, guess what they found! Cupcake ingredients! They were given 45 minutes to bake a cupcake from scratch, without recipes or a chance to research. There certainly wasn’t time for a little trial and error, which happens to be my speciality. One of the finalists claimed he had never even made a cupcake before! Yet they all gave it the old college try. I couldn’t believe they did it in such little time. I know from experience how difficult it is to decorate a piping hot cupcake!
My favorite did indeed become a finalist: A gorgeous coconut cupcake with lemon glaze. I could almost smell it through the television. It was so delicious looking. Chef Gordon Ramsay called it a “smart cupcake.”
The Cupcake Girls is a new series premiering Women’s Entertainment tv! Starting August 14 at 9pm/8c viewers can watch these two Canadian cupcake bakers run their chain of Cupcakes stores while trying to remain best friends. Heather and Lori created Cupcakes over 8 years ago and have been baking cupcakes like The Sweet 16, (vanilla cake with pink vanilla buttercream, finished with pastel sprinkles) the inspiration for their companies’ colors, ever since.

There is a frenzy that is unsettling cupcake businesses around America, causing bakers to reach for the video camera instead of the whisk. What, may you ask is upsetting the frosting on these cupcakes?
Well, a little over a week ago, the Food Network’s Cupcake Wars got busy on the phone encouraging selected bakers to consider submitting a video audition for the next round of Cupcake Wars. Lily and Erin from A Cupcake Wonderland were one such recipient and they decided to share their highly entertaining and funny video on You Tube, and of course with you! Good luck Cupcake Wonderland. If selected, they will compete against three other bakers / bakeries in a chance for cupcake glory!

Bill Rancic frosts cupcakes for 11 year old Eric Hernandez (right)
Cupcakes will brighten the day of any child, but in hospital, even more so! The South Town Star reported that “Rancic, the original winner on the reality TV Show ‘The Apprentice’ and his wife Giuliana, host of E! News passed out 150 cupcakes to children on Monday at Hope Children’s Hospital in Oak Lawn.”
“The couple partnered with Candace and Charles Nelson, owners of Sprinkles Cupcakes to donate $15,000 to the children’s hospital and its Ronald McDonald House”.
Seems to be the question that Jeff Houck from The Tampa Tribune is asking after TLC’s airing of DC Cupcakes on Friday night. DC Cupcakes is an inside look at the world of Sophie LaMontagne and Katherine Kallinis of Georgetown Cupcake in Washington, D.C. Both ladies gave away their corporate jobs in venture capital and fashion respectively to open the store, which now attracts hour-long queues for their cupcakes.
Houck takes a light poke at both the show and TLC, who he states “used to be called The Learning Channel until it realized viewers were averse to mixing education and television”. With other shows such as ‘Ace of Cakes‘, ‘Cake Boss‘, ‘Ultimate Cake Off‘ and ‘Cupcake Wars‘ he thinks we have gone too far and longs for the days where there were more episodes of Law & Order than cake shows.
What do you think? Have we reached cake saturation with our shows? In Australia we have no dedicated cake shows, and our educational stations are still giving on the whole educational content. You’ve got to see this to appreciate it. HeatherLynn already told you about this video a few days ago, but I just found a “sneak peek” that I was able to embed. The lovely Katy Perry with giant cupcakes on her bra. The infamous Snoop Dogg in a cupcake suit. What is California coming to? I don’t know, but it sure looks yummy! (And I just can’t stop singing the song!)
During tonight’s episode I have been rooting for Catarah Hampshire of Southern Girl Desserts (LA) and Todd Becker of Becker’s Bakery (Manhattan Beach, CA). I’ll do my best not to spoil anything for folks who might be catching the repeat shows later tonight, but while I am loyal to my homestate, I was actually most impressed by Hollis Wilder of Sweet! (Orlando, FL). Ms. Wilder was hands-down the most adventurous cupcaker of the bunch. I cannot believe she pulled off good cupcakes with salmon in them! I wonder if this will be the beginning of a new wave of savory cupcakes? Watch out bacon!
According to a New York Time’s article, On an upcoming episode of Semi-Homemade with Sandra Lee, the Attorney General Andrew Cuomo’s young daughter will help Sandra Lee to make cupcakes. A YouTube clip shows Lee with Mariah, the 15 year old twin adding flavoring and food coloring to frosting then filling the pastry bags to pipe the frosting onto the pre-baked cupcakes. The Fairy Princess Party themed episode where they make Mariah’s Garden Cupcakes is said to air July 14.
That’s right, this month the baker’s battlefield will be set. Icing bags will be loaded and beaters revved as the Food Network launches its new prime time series ‘Cupcake Wars’. The first episode of this premier series will be aired on June the 15th at 9pm ET/PT when four of the country’s top bakers will go head to head, but it is not until the Tuesday 27th July when our very own sponsor Stefanie Gaxiola of Red Velvet Stefanie will get to show off her amazing stuff.
Each episode will feature a different theme, from a SeaWorld Birthday Bash in Round 1 to the Film Festival Face Off, in which Stefanie will need to beat her opponents Arleen Scavore of Sweet Arleens, Zoey Devail of Bee Sweet Bakery and Johnny Mangamiotis of Mr Cupcakes to feature her cupcakes at a film festival. I am an Amy Sedaris fan and have always loved the episode of Martha Stewart where she tells Martha she should have her own show. I came across this recipe for Amy Sedaris’ Cupcakes. If you watch the youtube clip you will quickly learn that Amy is a minimalist and that is reflected in her recipes. There is no sifting, alternating adding of ingredients, or separating eggs because any Amy fan would tell you that’s just more dishes.
These Vanilla Cupcakes with Raspberry Jam look perfect to sink your teeth into as you settle in for an episode with your favorite vampires. And what might be the best part, aside from actually getting to eat the cupcakes is that it is a fairly simple and straight forward recipe without the fuss of fancy decorating.

If memory serves me correctly, the first cupcake videos to go viral was “The Cuppycake Song” by Judianna Castle featuring I believe to be the son and daughter of Judianna.
Cupcakes are not just a food, but also a cultural phenomenon that has spanned a gamut of themes from traditional to upscale as well as quaint to cool. A reader Madeline pointed out a couple of cupcake rap videos that expand the cupcake universe even further.

Last March, Food Network’s Duff Goldman lives up to his Ace of Cakes title by baking the largest cupcake in history — which was entered in the Guinness Book of World Records. The 61.4-pound creation is more than a foot tall and entirely edible. Reportedly 150 times the size of a regular cupcake, this record-breaker called for 16 pounds of butter, 10 pounds of sugar, and three ounces of food coloring.
Although it was widely reported that Duff broke the record, his record was disqualified in 2009 when it was revealed that his cupcake was baked in two parts! Not only do I want to see the cupcake, I want to see the oven capable of handling a cupcake this size!
This Thursday, at the Covent Garden Real Food Market, the world’s largest ever cupcake will make a nervous debut on the East Piazza. Nervous, because it will be a short-lived appearance: thousands of people will soon be wolfing it down. The baked behemoth will measure 2 metres by 1.25 metres, and it’s expected that around 2,000 will enjoy a slice.
Now consider this. Duff’s cupcake is 150 times larger than a normal cupcake. This londonist cupcake will be 10 times larger than Duff’s cupcake! No mention about whether it will officially take the Guiness Book of World Records crown though.

Actor Owen Wilson was spotted eating a cupcake in Georgetown Maryland. It is reported he stopped by Georgetown Cupcake for a red velvet and white chocolate cupcake.
Actress Amanda Setton for the show Gossip Girl is shown posing with cupcakes in front of the Cupcake Stop truck in NYC. We wrote about the Cupcake Stop truck earlier as it is a mobile cupcake shop roving NYC streets for hungry cupcake fans.
The national media went on a sugar high late last year, and it’s still buzzing about cupcakes. First, it was a Washington Post newspaper column. Now, is the cupcake craze ready for primetime TV?
Apparently so. Food Network is considering an entire TV series devoted to cupcakes, and it’s tentatively called “Cupcake Wars.”
The Washington Post took coverage to another level when they started their own Cupcake Wars on September 10, 2008. Over an eight-week period, food critics sampled 141 varieties of cupcakes inside the Beltway, documented their results, and told their tales of flavor. After all was eaten and said, The Post declared the chocolate ganache cupcake from Georgetown Cupcakes as the winner.
And now this. About 10 days ago, Food Network filed a trademark application to protect ‘Cupcake Wars’ for “a continuing program about food and cooking.” I can’t find any other details about the show and my requests to Food Network for more information went unanswered. Wouldn’t it be awesome if Food Network and The Post teamed up to do a “Cupcake War” series with each episode focusing on a different region? Manhattan one week, Chicago the next, then LA, and Orange County and on and on.
